Studying at UC

Academic performance and support plays a large role at University College. Residency is conditional upon full-time enrolment in an associate degree, undergraduate degree or higher at the following universities:

Students enrolled at other Melbourne academic institutions may also be considered for residency upon application.

We encourage students to take a proactive approach to learning and maximise the opportunities offered as part of UC’s academic program.

Academic conditions of residency

UC residency is conditional upon full-time enrolment in an associate or undergraduate degree or higher at one of the universities mentioned above. Students enrolled at other Melbourne academic institutions may also be considered for residency upon application.

Confirmed enrolment in a full-time degree

Students of non-University of Melbourne universities must forward official confirmation of subject enrolment to the Dean of Studies prior to the commencement of each semester.  This is not necessary for University of Melbourne students as the College receives this information directly from the University.

Release of results

All students will be required to sign an Authority for Release of Academic Results on entry to UC. Where UC is unable to access results directly from the student’s university (i.e. non- University of Melbourne students), that student must provide a copy of semester results as soon as they become available in order to facilitate confirmation of a place in the following semester.

Satisfactory academic progress/academic probation

When a resident fails two or more subjects in a semester, this is considered unsatisfactory academic progress and may affect your future residency at University College. The circumstances around these results will need to be discussed with the Dean of Studies and, should you be invited to return, you will be placed on Academic Probation and will not be eligible for a position on the Student Executive. Our staff will help you develop an individualised support plan.

Tutorials

UC employs qualified and experienced tutors who are familiar with the curriculum and course requirements of the subjects they oversee.

If academic support is not available for any of your subjects, please discuss alternatives with the Dean of Studies

Academic Support

Examination periods

Residents may stay in College for the full period of their University’s academic year, as outlined in your contract. Your exams or assessments may finish earlier than other students but we ask you to consider the needs of those still studying. Students causing disruption during exam periods will be asked to leave the College immediately.

The Dean of Studies is available for consultation or advice about all academic matters including subject changes or applying for special consideration. Make sure to visit the Dean’s office during working hours or email for advice.
