""He was named after his father's Scoutmaster , Alden Perry Gleason . Both of his sons also carry that middle name & were also able to become Gleason extended family members .
Joined Pack 2 Bronxville in 1952
Joined Troop 4 as Tenderfoot Scout= 1955
"Old Camp Waubeeka" Staff = 1958 - 1963 { Camp Bugler, Junior & Senior Staff , & final summer as Messhall Steward" ]
Earned Eagle Scout in 1958
In 1960 he initiated the Troop 4 Drum & Bugle Corps
Joined Troop 4 Committee in 1962 & served as Advancement Chairman = 1965 & 1966
Became Troop 4 Scoutmaster in 1966 & still serves in that role to this day. {NB: Prior to this, when the Troop 4 Committee could not find
a 21+ year old adult to assume the role of Scoutmaster , in 1958 Howard was selected as "unofficial Scoutmaster" & led Troop 4
in that role until going off to Cornell . [ One father was in charge on camping trips during those years ]
Awarded Bronxville Scout Committee's "Scouter of the Year Award"= 1977
Awarded National BSA Silver Beaver Award "for service to youth"= 1990
Awarded (as first recipient) Four Rivers District Leroy Nanton Award= 1999
Father , brother & both sons are Eagle Scouts as well
First attended old Camp Waubeeka in 1955
As Scoutmaster he has taken the Troop annually to old & new Waubeeka since 1967.
Took Troop 4 on canoe trips at Maine High Adventure Area for 3 summers
Attended 1957 & 1960 National Scout Jamborees-----1960 as Staff member at the Jamboree with the Order of the Arrow Service Troop.
Attended Philmont National Scout Ranch as Council Staff in 1960
In 1969 he & Senior Patrol Leader Ralph Babcock founded Troop 4 newspaper, "The Bugle"
Founding Board Member of the Bronxville Scout Committee
One of a committee of three adult leaders to purchase the Bronxville Scout Cabin from the Siwanoy-Bronx Valley Council in the 1970's
Awarded the William E. Kelly Camping Award by the WP Council
Elected Chairman of the Bronxville Scout Committee in 2018
Have had the pleasure of a few former Scouts' sons and nephews following
in their family footsteps as Scouts for a second generation in Troop 4
1967 to 2022... Howard has been rewarded by 52 of his Scouts achieving Eagle Scout Rank
