BEFORE YOU GO TO-DO LIST ITEMS
Students live in dorm style housing with single and double rooms.
The Trinity Rome Campus has two housing locations within a few blocks of each other, Casa Publicii and Casa Anselmo.
The Director in Rome makes room assignments, based upon the Rooming Questionnaire you completed in the post acceptance section of your application.
Housing assignments will be provided prior to arrival in Rome.
Students who receive special housing arrangements on their campus must provide an official letter from their school outlining the details. The Rome campus cannot guarantee that special housing arrangements can be accommodated.
The program is not able to accommodate or guarantee student requests.
Rooms are small, and there is very limited space for storing your belongings, so plan accordingly (suitcases that can nest inside each other for storage are highly recommended).
Both buildings are old stone buildings. European standards for climate adjustment are much different than the US, which means your room will likely be warm in the summer and chilly in the winter.
You should be sure to pack something warm to sleep in, and we recommend a micro-fiber blanket as well, because they are warm but pack easily.
There is no air conditioning in any of the housing locations.
There is no alcohol allowed anywhere on campus or in the housing.
No overnight guests are permitted.
All students are required to live in program housing.
Nothing may be affixed to the walls, so please leave posters, pictures, and hangings at home. This will also help your packing space.
Storage of luggage or other personal belongings is not available on campus before the program begins. If students wish to travel at the conclusion of the semester, the program can try to make arrangements for storage at the campus, but due to limited space we cannot guarantee storage after the end of the program.
A coin-operated washing machine and dryer are available on the premises of the campus as well as at the Hotel. It will cost you several euros to do each load. The machines are smaller than the typical US size machines.
You may wish to bring some laundry detergent tablets with you so you don’t need to immediately search out a store until you are more oriented to the area.
You will be provided with linens, blankets, pillowcases and towels.
These will be changed weekly and laundered.
You may wish to bring a larger bath towel, facecloth and pillow as those provided are small, and we recommend bringing a blanket (micro fiber or light down that compresses for packing) to supplement the blanket that will be provided.
We do advise that you to wait until you get to Rome before before purchasing additional towels, or bedding to see what your needs will be in Rome in addition to what is listed above.
Your room will be cleaned once per week at Casa Publicii.
Your room will be cleaned daily at Casa Anselmo.
If you wish to skip the cleaning service, you can place a sign on the door indicating not to be disturbed.
The Italian Living Project is designed for students who are truly interested in living a full-immersion experience while in Rome.
Students who apply and are accepted to the Italian Living Project, will live off-campus for the semester in a nearby Trinity-managed apartment with 2 Italian roommates from the local university in Rome and one to three fellow students from the program.
All students receive 16 meals per week.
This includes breakfast 7 days per week, lunch Monday through Friday and 4 dinners.
Breakfast is continental (rolls, coffee, etc.) and is served in the dining hall at Casa Publicii.
Lunches are also served in the dining hall and are served family-style, generally consisting of a meat, pasta, bread, salad, and fruit. Students are expected to help with cleaning up the tables after lunch in the dining hall.
Dinners: Students receive meal coupons for 4 dinners each week, redeemable at several local restaurants. The choices include a range of styles, including a take-out deli, a local pizza place, Italian cuisine and more. These coupons are worth approximately 10-12 Euros.
There is a coffee and soda machine for students to use.
There is also a snack vending machine.
Students will receive a months worth of meal coupons at a time.
Please contact the Study Away Advisor regarding any dietary needs if you did not list them in your post-acceptance information. The staff will accommodate dietary needs for daily breakfast and lunch, as well as during outings or weekend trips.
Students will also receive Cafe coupons. The value of these vary but usually are enough for a coffee and pastry or gelato.
If you have friends visiting you, they may not eat a meal on campus without asking permission from the Resident Assistant and paying for it. You will learn how to make this request from our staff in Rome.
