BEFORE YOU GO TO-DO LIST ITEMS
The British School at Rome (BSR) is an interdisciplinary research centre supporting the arts, archaeology, humanities and architecture. It is the largest member of the UK’s international network of overseas research institutes, the British International Research Institutes (BIRIs), whose members span the Mediterranean basin, Africa and the Middle East. As a bridge between the intellectual and cultural heart of Rome and Italy, and creative and academic researchers from Britain and the Commonwealth, the BSR creates an environment for work of international standing and impact from Britain and the Commonwealth.
The BSR’s current Strategic and Research Plan can be found on our website:

"While the BSR is an academic setting, they also focus on the arts and invest in the futures of talented individuals who they bring on as fellows. One of the best parts of my day while there was tea time; I was able to interact with the fellows, both academics and artists, and got to hear their unique perspectives that they were brave enough to put on in an exhibition at the end of their time at the BSR. [...]
Though I had no idea what I was bringing to the table, Harriet constantly checked in with me about my future career and academic goals because she wanted to ensure that whatever work I did was useful to both the BSR and to my endeavours. [...]
Overall the BSR has an incredible work environment.
My advice to future interns is to analyze your academic, professional and travel goals for the semester before committing to the internship. While the experience itself is invaluable, being in a new country during an ongoing pandemic and taking course trips throughout the semester can be exhausting and overwhelming; it is important to be realistic about what you want to prioritize.
Personally, ensuring I was building my resume was important but I was not realistic of how taxing it was to be out in the world again after quarantining for most of my college experience. Best of luck!" (N.L., Fall 2021)
