Can I Get a Snowfall Recap?
You sure can. The first two seasons of Snowfall followed a pretty predictable arc as Franklin rose through the drug game. But last season took a hard left turn. The last time we saw this show in 2019 it wasn’t talking about Franklin’s growing power in South Central. It was dissecting the consequences of Franklin’s progressively violent and morally questionable actions.
This was especially true when it came to Officer André (Marcus Henderson). Remember how Franklin killed André after that cop swore he’d never stop chasing our drug-dealing antihero? That came back to haunt him in a big way. Toward the end of Season 3 Melody (Reign Edwards), Franklin’s childhood girlfriend, learned that Franklin was the one who shot her father. She got her revenge after André’s funeral when she repeatedly shot Franklin.
While Franklin was bleeding out, Snowfall took a different approach to its finale. “Other Lives” focused on what could have been instead of what was. The episode went all the way back to when Franklin was first approached about selling weed and traced what would have happened if he had said no. Depressingly, what happened next wasn’t much happier than Franklin’s current reality. In this alternate timeline he went to college, but he was always seen as an outsider. By the stand alone episode’s end he was even kicked out of the school’s dorms because of a paperwork mishap. The point was clear: No matter what path he chose, life was always going to be cruel and unfair to a black kid like Franklin.
But don’t worry about Franklin’s health too much. We know that Franklin survived those gunshots and is alive in Season 4. This new season will force Franklin to pick a side in the impending drug war rather than playing it safe. It will also test Franklin’s alliances and enemies. Can this scrappy kid become the next king of Los Angeles? Or is he doomed to more prison time or worse, death?
