In our digital world change is happening at a rapid rate. In order to differentiate oneself from competitors, embracing change and planning for the future are necessary. It is critical when leading in such an agile environment, that leaders “be the catalyst for change” (Sheninger, 2014, p. 4).
Implementation of a new learning technology (LT), whether to replace or upgrade a current technology, requires extensive investigation to identify the most effective and efficient technology available. Most importantly this investigation should reveal the impacts of this change on the organization. Thus, there are many factors to consider when implementing and managing change. Moreover, “organizational change takes place over a period of time, and to increase the probability of success, it is important to plan for change, and address the critical factors that lead to successful” (Al-Hadad and Kotnour, 2015, p. 254).
The following tool kit offers a step by step process, along with guiding questions (see Appendix A) that will give leaders of change the best opportunity for success. These steps are essential in guiding the change management process; however, it is encouraged to use these steps in an order that works best for your organization. It is recognized that there is no single model which guarantees success, but with patience and continued effort over time, success could be achieved (Moskal, Dziuban, & Hartman, 2013, p. 16).
