Background information of National Neuroscience Institute (SGH campus):
The National Neuroscience Institute (NNI) is the national and regional specialist centre for conditions of the brain, spine, nerves and muscles. NNI aims to shape neuroscience care for a better tomorrow. By putting patients at the heart of all they do, they are committed to lead in neuroscience care and improve lives through integrated clinical service, research and education.
NNI also collaborates with the National University of Singapore (NUS) and Duke-NUS Medical School to shape neuroscience education. Students from the medical schools are posted to the different departments for clinical teaching. Hence, NNI plays a major role in nurturing future and outstanding neurologists. As they are driven by the passion to improve patients' lives, they constantly pursue neurological disease research to understand, prevent, diagnose and ultimately treat the diseases.
The institute itself comprises of Departments of Neurology, Neurosurgery, Neuroradiology, Neurodiagnostic and Neuromuscular Laboratories. In particular, the Neurology Department, which we were attached to, specialised in the treatment of stroke, dementia, neuromuscular disorders, Parkinson’s disease and movement disorders. Other subspecialties include epilepsy, general neurology, headaches and migraine, neuro-immunology, neuro-infectious diseases and sleep disorders.
