A*STAR ( Institute of High Performance Computing)

Background information of the ORGANIZATION:

IHPC stands for the Institute of High Performance Computing. It was established in August 1998, as a research institute under the Agency for Science, Technology, and Research (A*STAR). It promotes and spearheads scientific advancements, as well as technological innovations through computational modelling, simulation, and visualisation methodologies and tools. The institute's vision is to provide leadership in high performance computing as a strategic resource for scientific inquiry and industrial development.

About the tasks:

IHPC001 is the task to produce a set of labeled video clips for a deep-learning system to learn and recognize people's activities and behaviors, as well as giving comments on how we could improve the in-house developed video labeling tool. However, since the video labeling process could be handled all by one person, our mentor instructed the other to learn how to utilize the extensible web micro-framework, Flask, for building web applications using Python. The knowledge gained from this task was then utilized to create this website from scratch for the presentation of our WOW! takeaways.

IHPC002 is the task to explore and learn about simulation and modelling software, such as Unity, Blender, 3DS Max and more. We learnt to make use of both Blender and Unity to create a virtual environment, where 3D objects interact with each other, with the goal of investigating causal-effect relationships in a virtual space. On top of that, we were tasked to compare the different 3D modelling software available in the market. We produced a report comparing the price, functionality and difficulty of the most popular software in the market.
