I hope you are enjoying Oxford Owls or Capstone books . It’s really important to read out loud, with someone. Maybe try to pick a page or two that you found a little difficult and read those several times. Ask somebody at home to ask you a few questions about your book to make sure you’re understanding what you’re reading. Even try reading some books that you may have at home!
For the Capstone set of readers, once you click into it,
click "login",
click "login with Capstone Interactive"
The username is "freeaccess" and the password is "engage"
Let's try work on our sight words. I know we were all on different levels so I'll set a challenge here which might be a little hard for some and a little easy for others. It's a list of the first 100 sight words. Start with List 1 and just give it a go and see how many you can read . Another challenge that you could try is how many words can you read in 60 seconds? Have fun girls!
Let's Brainstorm!
This week, I want us to focus on 'oo' words. How many words can you think of with the sound oo in it?
Can you make some sentences with these 'oo' words in your copy or saying it out loud to someone. Try to make your sentences interesting by adding descriptive words. Remember to use your dictionary to look up any words that you do not understand. The 'oo' words below can help you.
If you would like to practice this sound even more, here are some worksheets:
Do you remember the game that we played in school? Why not try it at home! Ask somebody at home to read the story below out loud to you called 'Keeping Cool'.
Your job is to close your eyes and count how many times you can hear the sound of week : oo. You can keep track of the number of times you can hear this sound by using a pencil and paper. Have fun :)
This game is called ‘Look, Cover, Write, Check’ and it allows you practice some of the spellings we have practiced before https://www.ictgames.com/mobilePage/lcwc/index.html
Click on Year 1 and click on a sound that you would like to practice. Give yourselves a challenge this week girls!
Let's practice some more dividing this week girls! If any of you need some reminding of how to divide, have a look at Ms. Kealy's video to help you along. You can find this below or don't be afraid to send me an email if you are stuck and I can help you along.
Things to think about when trying a Maths word problem:
What is the problem about?
What is the problem asking?
What is the best way to solve this?
What kind of sum should I do? + - x
Does my answer make sense?
Did I check I did my sum?
Why not give home made play dough a go this week girls! There are only 4 ingredients and you might find some of these at home. Here is a short video to show you how to make it. You can create endless things with your home made play dough. You can always ask an adult to help you out.
