In this year’s senior class, there are a multitude of students who stand out for their unique determination to academic, athletic, and social success, and have contributed immeasurably to the MHS community. They have worked so hard in these four years, and the students and teachers who have had the pleasure of interacting with them and being part of their story can rest assured knowing that they will apply this same work ethic to whatever they do beyond high school. One student comes to mind as a model and example from the rest of these exemplary students: Hunter Adrian.
Hunter is a passionate wrestler and a committed scholar. He recently declared his commitment to Brown University, where he will continue to wrestle and pursue his academic career. He is currently undecided on a major at this prestigious institution, but is leaning towards computer science as an area of study. Wrestling first became a part of Adrian’s life in first grade, and since then it has grown into more than just a hobby. He has quite an impressive track record to show for these years of work in the sport: four-time Division 3 Sectional Champion, four-time Division 3 State Champion, four-time All-State Champion, and three-time New England Champion. If all of that means little to you, he was ranked 10th in the entire country by USA Wrestling.
According to Adrian, he loves the sport because of the way it improves and challenges all aspects of him. “Wrestling is a sport where how hard you work is directly linked to your success, which really motivated me to work as hard as possible in everything I do,” he reflects. “It made me fall in love with the constant grind and gave me a mentality and work ethic that allowed me to accomplish my goals.”

In a video from the Boston Herald, both Hunter Adrian and Larry Tremblay, the MHS wrestling coach, were interviewed. When asked why Hunter is among the group of great wrestlers that he has trained, Coach Tremblay said, “Hunter is here because of Hunter. I mean, there’s no coach out there that could take credit for Hunter. He takes credit for himself. He’s worked harder than any wrestler I’ve ever been around.” Junior twins CJ and Michael Maher, both members of the MHS wrestling team, look up to him both as an exemplary wrestler and person, a modest and quiet leader. “Hunter Adrian is the perfect representation of what a leader should be on and off the mat,” says Michael. “He may be a bit quiet in the practice room, but if you get the chance to wrestle with him, you know that he speaks with his actions.” CJ, too, looks up to him. “Hunter has to be the most driven kid both in and out of the wrestling room. Hunter is someone who can teach you important lessons without speaking. He’s the kid who doesn’t talk much, but always says the funniest stuff at the right time, which is one of the best qualities to have.”
In terms of an academic experience, this year’s senior class took the hardest hit. Sports seasons, graduation, prom - nothing has been left untouched. But through the example set by great seniors like Hunter Adrian and many more, we can all be confident that these setbacks could never deter them from their mission to be their best selves. Even when faced with a takedown, these seniors always seem to be able to reverse and escape before they hit the mat.
