With the release of It: Chapter 2, many fans were more than excited to go see the continuation of It, released in 2017. But I left the theater with mixed feelings to put it simply. First of all, it was never exactly explained how Pennywise came back (Note: I have not read the book). It’s a generally small detail, sure, but I think it’s strange how after he pretty much turned to ash in Part 1, he suddenly came back to life in Part 2. Despite this inconsistency with the plot,, the visuals in the movie were pretty excellent. I especially liked the final battle where Pennywise took on the form of the spider-clown because the model for the creature was straight up SICK. I think the movie was very violent, but after all, it is a horror movie about a killer clown-alien. Yes, it is confirmed in the movie that Pennywise is actually a shape-shifting alien that took on the form of a clown back in the early 1800’s. Pennywise has a kill count of five in the movie, two of which being part of the losers club. He first kills Stanley in the beginning of the movie, which is heartbreaking for the losers, and convinces them to fight Pennywise one last time. The second loser being Eddie, who was killed directly by Pennywise when he impaled him in the chest with a large spike on his arm. And while there were many heartwarming, and genuinely scary scenes, a large amount of the movie was taken up by the losers all working to collect something from their childhood that would later be used in a ritual to defeat the clown (This ritual fails). So overall, with a large amount of the movie being semi-boring, heartwarming, and visually good, I give it a 7/10.
