The Nixon family business is the Oak Springs Enterprise.
Dick Nixon is the Owner, Publisher, and Editor.
His two daughters, Penny and Rachel are important parts of the business, as we move through the years.
Penny was born in 1957, was 30 in 1987, for example, when she was the principal in "Murder by the Homeplace."
By 1996, she is 39, and Associate Editor, learning the business side as well as continuing to write and edit.
She is unmarried and likes it that way.
Rachel was born in 1978, 18 years old in 1996, in same class with Scott Gates their last couple of years in High School
In 1996, she was working as a part-time reporter with the Enterprise, studying journalism, business and graphic arts at the Community College.
Rachel and Scott had been a couple since their junior year in High School.
Scott and Rachel marry in September 1997.
Rachel expects to become full-time at the paper in 1997 while Scott expects to be a full-time farmer with the Bevins Trust.
Russell Nixon bought a farm just north of Oak Springs, as a 25 year old, in 1873, the old Bartlett place.
About 1877-78, Russell began to write articles for the Enterprise about growth in the community and social issues.
Randall Nixon was born to Russell and Norma Nixon in January 1877, joining his older sister, Elmira, age 4.
In the first quarter of 1880, at 30, Russell sold his farm and purchased an interest in the Enterprise from Jerry Potts, then aged 65.
He then worked in and learned the business from Potts. In 1885, with Nixon aged 35 and Potts aged 70, Nixon purchased the rest of the business.
Russell Nixon became Publisher, but retained Alex McDonald as Editor.
When Russell Nixon became age 65, in 1915, he turned the Enterprise over to his son, Randall, then aged 38
Raymond Nixon was born to Randall Nixon and his wife, in 1911.
Richard Nixon was born to Raymond Nixon and his wife, in 1936.
Richard Nixon became Publisher and Editor of the Oak Spring Enterprise in 1976, when his father, Raymond, reached age 65.
