Organized Activities to do this Summer

With school ending soon, a lot of people are looking forward to not having to sit through classes and finally having a break from the stress of school. However, summer brings the opportunity to learn things that you wouldn’t or don’t usually learn in school. There are online courses and courses hosted at college campuses nearby that are interesting and suited to personal interests.

Not only are these fun, but some classes teach you important skills that you can actually use in life. You’ll also gain the experience of having more diverse and interesting classes.

Grossmont College offers classes to recent high-school graduates for $46 for California Residents (financial aid available). They offer specialized courses in subject areas like automotive technology, graphic design, paralegal studies, culinary arts, nursing and occupational therapy assistant technology. You can find more information about this here.

Through UCSD, there are other programs as well that you can find at this link. They have courses to do a year of a language in only 9 weeks, a Big Data summer camp for an introduction into data science; COSMOS for top math and science students; Future Leaders Summer Programs, Mission Bay Youth Watersports Camp, Supercomputer Center courses with programming, video, robotics and other programs, UCSD Jazz Camp, and also Sports Camps.

There are also plenty of individual online courses, some that are run through colleges and universities. All of them are easy to find if you just look, and there are thousands of opportunities for people to learn.

There are also summer camps of various types. There are plenty of sports camps (see here), but there are also art camps with the San Diego Museum of Art, theater training programs at the La Jolla Playhouse, photography with the San Diego Museum of Photographic Art and more.

There are also STEAM Camps, like camps on cybersecurity and encryption, AeroSummer at the San Diego Air and Space Museum, medical camp classes with Rady Children’s Hospital, and biology courses. On top of that, the San Diego Zoo and SeaWorld both offer summer camps, alongside Birch Aquarium, and various Humane Societies. There are also Public Safety camps for lifeguarding and with the Sheriff’s Department and the FBI Youth Leadership Program. Click here for more information about them!
