The Show Must Go On: How Granite Hills' Choir Prepares for Concerts

Mia Gonzalez, Staff Writer

Every year, all of the choir classes come together to plan multiple concerts for the enjoyment of the Granite Hills High School community. With these concerts comes many weeks of preparing. The mind behind it all, Janessa Nadeau, has to plan at least three months prior to see what the concert will look like. She has to find one hour of songs that fit with the theme to keep the audience entertained, and that fits the skill set of the choir.

The next step in the process is finding who will perform solos within each choir performance. Nadeau requires whoever wants a solo to audition with a recording of them singing. Within the recording, she looks for in tune singing and confidence. She also allows students to audition for solos outside of their group, which requires a regular audition and a personal song selection that matches the set theme. Only at the last concert of the year does Nadeau allow each choir to vote for which song they’d like to perform.
