NHS Community Clothing Drive

Giving back to the community comes in many different forms. For some, it may be in the form of working at a volunteer job to benefit those less fortunate. For NHS, it comes with giving back to a local hospital. As a school-wide event, NHS collected over (# of pounds/ clothes) during their first ever NHS Clothing Drive, which ran from April 29 to May 17th.

The clothes collected are going towards a good cause. “All donated clothing will be given to homeless patients as part of the hospital’s ‘discharge with dignity’ standards,” said Sara Cortes (21), a member and one of the coordinating officers of this event. She hopes to have brought comfort and much needed care with the event she helped plan.

Cortes mentions that this event is designed to align with “spring cleaning” times, to make it easier for students to donate. She hopes to make this an annual event at school. “So far the response has been better than I could’ve hoped for, so I would definitely do it again,” said Cortes. Since the event requires so little effort from each person to make a big impact, Cortes said that there really is no point in not donating something.

For the lives of some hospital patients, there is very little room for happiness. Between emergency visits, countless surgeries and medicines, and time spent in the hospital, anyone can get tired and sad. To bring a little joy to someone’s life is as simple as a t-shirt. “Really, the simplest things matter the most,” said Cortes.

Cortes has been working at the hospital for a little over a year, and would like to give a big thank you to everyone who participate in the event. “Rest assured your clothes will be put to good use,” said Cortes. The lives touched and benefits reaped from this event are unmeasurable. Thank you, Eagles.
