Sports Medicine is a career pathway at Granite Hills with hands on learning of the basics of preventing, assessing, and treating sports injuries.
Sports Medicine teacher Katherine Leek said, “The first year we go over general information about what is sports medicine.” The second year is more of assessment and treatment of injuries.
The students “learn about the taping techniques,” Leek said. Being able to use them outside of class once they’ve learned them is a very useful skill for students.
“We’ve learned about lots of different injuries and how to help them,” Bailey Wallace (20) said. Some of the skills students learn are shoulder bracing, wrist taping, ankle taping, and checking vital signs.

Every year, all of the choir classes come together to plan multiple concerts for the enjoyment of the Granite Hills High School community. With these concerts comes many weeks of preparing. The mind behind it all, Janessa Nadeau, has to plan at least three months prior to see what the concert will look like. She has to find one hour of songs that will keep the audience entertained, that sticks with the theme that she chooses, and that fits the skill set of the choir.
The next step in the process is finding who will perform solos within each choir performance. Nadeau requires whoever wants a solo to audition with a recording of them singing. Within the recording, she looks for in tune singing and confidence.

Granite Hills is known for their IB and AP programs as well as their sports. There are many classes that students can take to complete their one-year requirement of an elective to graduate. Some of these options include Art, Photography, and Choir. All of these classes need to have two semesters completed with a C or higher to finalize the one-year requirement of graduation requirements. Although to graduate we need electives, many students to have no clue on what type of options they have to choose from and what these classes will teach them, and what will be a good fit for them.

The Australians came to Granite Hills High School to visit the campus and experience life as an Eagle for a day on the 18th of January. Nineteen Australian students and 2 teachers came to the United States for a total of 21 days, visiting San Francisco, Los Angeles, and San Diego, during their summer vacation. They stayed in San Diego for a week and a half and then flew back to Australia two days before school started back up for them.
“It is an educational trip, a cultural exchange, and it was designed from their end to help these Australian students have an opportunity to see what life is like in a different country,” Tracy Brewer, an English teacher at Granite Hills and the coordinator of this program, said.

You never leave home without it. Every five minutes, you feel the need to take it out and check it. “Has someone texted me?”, “What’s the latest news?” , “Am I being left out?” you might say. You might order food or look at comedic videos, perhaps call or text a friend.

During the young part of people's lives many students, especially high schoolers, decide they want to play a sport or possibly numerous sports to keep busy, stay fit, meet new people and have fun. Students differentiate on how serious they take the sport, whether it is to compete at a higher level one day or if it is just another activity to just help them get out of the house. High Schools typically offer countless amounts of sports for students to engage in. While off-season clubs and such offer more time to dedicate to the sport. Many student athletes participate in both off season as well as high school season, but when compared which is preferred.

When my dad told me we were going on a surprise trip to Ireland, I didn’t know what to expect. I knew it would be grassy, there would be lots of potatoes, and awesome accents, but that was the whole spectrum of my knowledge of this foreign place. Therefore, I wasn’t really excited and had no idea what was in store, but I am so thankful I got to go. I learned valuable lessons including: It’s easier to be nice than to be rude, you can usually solve problems on your own, and do not procrastinate. (because you’ll be super stressed with makeup work if you do) Plus I got to see some beautiful sights along the way.
To get to Ireland, we had a layover in Philadelphia. Philly happens to be one of my favorite places. I visited it in the eighth grade and fell in love with primarily brick buildings and the overall vibe of the city. After telling my family about how much I love it there, I decided to get a coffee. Upon arriving at the airport coffee shop, I immediately had troubles.

Our Granite Hills Eagles take down the El Cajon Valley Braves in a come back winning fashion, with a final score of 55-48 on January 15, 2019.
To begin the game, the Braves start by winning the jump ball and quickly converting into two small buckets, but not long for Hunter Pike (19) to nail a three pointer to maintain a close game. Within the first quarter, the Braves had controlled the game with their tight defense, which lead to multiple fast break layups. Successful drives from McKay Roberts (20) had kept Granite Hills within a four point losing deficit, and a score of 12-16, by the end of the quarter.

Wrestling is one of the most physically, emotionally, and mentally demanding sports anyone can do. I found this out when I decided last year that I would become a wrestler for the Granite Hills Wrestling team.
Last year I started wrestling as the 182 pound wrestler. Last year I wrestled many duel meets and tournaments and my final record for my freshman year was 17-6. My freshmen season was cut short at the so-cal frosh championship when I was wrestling for 3rd place and I was bridging super hard trying not to get pinned and I was able to get out and I heard and felt a pop in my foot. I felt no pain at the time. I unfortunately lost the match, fast forward to Monday after school I was at the hospital getting a cast for the two broken bones in my right foot.
