Our Instruments

That we have played, and look forward to playing

Our eMeda 61 key Keyboard:

After seeing our interest in learning to play, Jay L. brought us over a 61-key eMedia keyboard for us to practice on. With some work we made a place for it to live inside our small place. (Left top).

We set up a RAM Camera Mount for making progress videos on the KB . I attached the RAM mount to an extra music stand, see blog post.

Will I ever get a KB longer than 61 keys? I have chosen not to spend money on a KB quite yet. If I get to the point I need more than 61 keys to play my music and we have the funding THEN we may consider a used Yamaha P-115, P-121(73 key) or P-125.

Mother Marion (Kathy's Mother) occasionally plays on her 1982 Kohler & Campbell upright console piano

Mother Marion (Kathy's Mother): Occasionally plays on her Kohler & Campbell upright console piano 1982- 780000 41" Satin Walnut that sits in her guest room.

Company History: Kohler & Campbell pianos are products of the ingenious minds of two people, Charles Kohler and John Calvin Campbell. In 1896, they joined forces to form the partnership that later on made a big name in the world of musical instruments.

When they first teamed up in New York, Campbell was a machinist who had made several genius machines using wood and iron while Kohler was a piano maker and was also considered a genius in factory management and business. Together they created a new line of music, by creating one of the best piano lines on the market.

Present Day Kohler Manufacturing

Kohler and Campbell manufactures both grand and vertical pianos. Each piano is classified in to two categories - the Millennium series and the New York series. Both the Millennium and New York Series of grand pianos have six models. There are eight vertical Millennium vertical pianos and four New York vertical pianos.

These models are manufactured with the finest materials and expert craftsmanship from around the world, including Germany, South Korea, Canada and Indonesia. Serial numbers can be seen either on the inside cover of the instrument or above the iron plate on the left or right side.

Piano Features

The pianos are made through the combined power of technology and expert manual craftsmanship with over 40 years of experience. The tapered and shaped soundboard is made from the finest quality of spruce, created by Andre Bolduc (known worldwide for his expert and unique skill in this trade).

All Kohler and Campbell pianos, like any other high quality and expensive pianos, are created using the world famous Renner action and hammers that come from Germany. A variety of exotic and durable wood is used to create the pianos, including Mahogany, Bubinga, Ebony, Meranti and Agathis.

And of course we hope to on day get back to learning Guitar

Paul: I look forward to learning to playing various flute styles in the new system. Besides recorders, I have tried a western concert flute but could not grasp making adequate sound out of it. I do own a little 'Starry Nights' bamboo flute (pictured) but can't get any sound out of it either. I sure wouldn't mind learning how to play some little diddy on it. I also would like to play Pan and Indian flutes. I love the airy sound that flutes make. One day with time, I will master them. Photo from http://eriktheflutemaker.com/

Bonus Instrument: The Tharanum. That Sci-Fi sounding instrument you hear in the old classic sci-fi shows. Kathy and I both love the sound of it and would love to learn to play it in the new system. It takes great skill and practice to play this instrument, ah, but we will have eternity to practice.
