Roleplay Rules

Basic literacy is required.
You must display an understanding of spelling and grammar, with few or little mistakes.  We are welcoming to people using the Vale as a tool to develop their literacy or to improve their English, and are accommodating to disabilities, so we really do try to work with you on meeting Vale literacy standards.

Specific RP Format required.
All members of the Vale are expected to use third person, paragraph style (quotation marks for speech) roleplay. Spelling mistakes should be minimal, and grammar should be decent. You don't have to be perfect (nobody is), but to roleplay means your replies need to be understandable. 

There is a required starter/reply length.
All starters must be at least eight sentences, and all replies must at least be at least six sentences. You will be prompted to lengthen a starter or reply if the mods notice you do not meet this requirement. Continuous infractions will result in removal.

NSFW roleplay is not allowed.
No smut roleplay within the server. No innuendos or hinting at it in roleplay, either.

Birth Roleplays must be summarized.
Graphic/highly detailed birthing roleplays are not allowed - if a birth is rough for the mother, you should summarize the details without going too in-depth about the gory details. You may post births in Current Events.

Mindless violence is not permitted.
Even if your cat is bloodlustful, mindlessly assaultive or murderous cats obviously wouldn't be permitted to stay in the Clans, and would probably be hunted to death if they were a rogue.

Your cat's actions will have consequences.
If you put your character into a life threatening situation, or into an encounter in which death is a high possibility, you may not use plot armor to get out of losing your character. If you want to tempt fate, then roll the dice and don't complain if the odds aren't in your favor. We want to encourage fun and excitement for sure, but risks aren't fun/hold no meaning if there's no real chance of loss.

Please make sure you are roleplaying in the appropriate places.
It may seem like a lot of channels at first, but it will get easier with time. They're pretty self explanatory. Please make sure to move to channels as needed and to roleplay in the appropriate categories.

Please put appropriate tags/trigger warnings in your replies, and spoiler mark the gritty details.
If there is gore, graphic violence, "gross" content (throwing up, for example), and so on, please be sure to put the appropriate tag at the top of your reply so members can avoid any content they may not want to read. Please spoiler mark your messages with triggering content to further protect your peers.

Please do not powerplay.
This includes but is not limited to; godmodding (being invincible, having non-approved powers, being “the best” at everything, etc), or meta-gaming (your oc somehow knowing things they should not, like the internal thoughts of other cats or secret meetings of which they were not present). If you are using a stat-based bio, only two may be maxed out, and two may be almost maxed out. The rest must be average or below.

Please ask before you attempt a forbidden relationship.
While fun, we would like to be able to keep track of how many are going on, so the group is not flooded with them.
Forbidden relationships include Cross Clan and ClanCat x Outsider.
NOTE: Just because you were given permission does not mean your ocs are exempt from consequence. If your cat is caught, they face whatever consequence is deemed fit by the Clan leader.

Apprentice x Warrior relationships, as well as pregnant apprentices, are not allowed.
The only theoretical exception is an apprentice who is late to getting their name (i.e. they failed an assessment or started training late and are now 12+ moons). But apprentices younger than 12 moons may not romantically engage with a warrior, nor become pregnant. 

You may have a maximum of two high ranks total.
You may not have more than one high rank in the same Clan at one time.
High Ranks include: Leader, Deputy, and Medicine Cat, within OakClan, StreamClan, or CaveClan.
Clan-unique roles and ranks outside of the Clans do not apply.

All queen litters over 2 kits are then subjected to dice rolling.
You will use the Tatsu bot to roll the number of kits your queen will have! You can have 2 without a dice roll, but for 3 or more, you will roll a corresponding die (a d5 for a litter of 5, a d6 for a litter of 6) and gamble for the entire litter size. The number you get will be the number of surviving kittens. 
One reroll will be permitted for litters with less than a 50% survival rate. I.e., if you roll a d6 and get a 2, you can try one more time. It is staff discretion how many times you may reroll, but everyone is entitled to at least one.

Please ask before incorporating large plots, cat groups, etc. into your roleplays.
Events such as dog attacks, rogue/loner groups, prophecies, raids, and other similar things require mod-given permission.

You may only use your character in a maximum of 3 threads at a time.
This is to avoid oversaturation. Make sure those roleplays aren't going on at the same time, so that we have some consistency.

Roleplays that take place in private messages are by default not considered canon.
Due to lack of mod ability to moderate threads done in dm, anything you write in private with another person won't be considered canon in character. If you want to plead your case for a particular roleplay in dm, you will be required to provide screenshots/access for mod verification.
