Formatting a reply in The Vale has no strict rules - this page simply outlines certain expectations to assure roleplays go smoothly.
Creating and posting a starter is how all roleplays begin, and this server tries to keep it as simple and easy as possible. All roleplay are done in individually titled channels, in which members will submit threads and do roleplays within them. Writing partners can be found in the Roleplay Search channel, where you can post an ad for a new thread. After deciding which cats you'll use and what will happen, it's time to choose a channel and post the starter! Some guidelines to follow while creating the starter are as follows:
Every thread needs a header, of which a few aspects must be present. Please place the status (OPEN/CLOSED/ASK TO JOIN/ETC) at the beginning of your thread, and either provide a title, the characters involved, or both. Formatting is up to you as long as the required info is present. EXAMPLES:
1. open : A Cold Wind
2. (apprentices only) | Newleaf Showers (Onepaw&Twopaw)
3. CLOSED - Newstar, Deputyface, and Medicinecat.
The content of the starter should include the time of day, characters involved, weather, etc. Some members post small information blurbs at the head of their starter to help with this
Tag your thread partner/s so they know where the thread is. Notifications for threads don't pop up unless a member is tagged/interacts with the thread directly
If posting an open thread, be sure to make it easy for people to jump in - don't leave it off in a place where it's difficult to integrate others
If multiple people are involved in a thread, a turn order can help avoid confusion. This is not requried nor default - check with your writing partners before assuming or establishing one
If your starter lacks required information, a mod will reach out to you for correction. Failure to adhere to the guidelines within 24hrs leaves your starter subject to deletion. In theory a mod may copy + paste it to you, but that is not a requirement for them after you were given 24 hours to comply.
It's stated in the rules that starters must have a minimum of eight sentences. Additionally, all replies must be in paragraph style third person. Members are definitely allowed to customize their starter headers however they want through different fonts, titles, song lyrics, and even small amounts of emojis. So long as your starter follows the given rules, you can format your starter however you like. The body of the starter may not be in a special/fancy font however - you may italicize or bold, but nothing else.

@valemember - twilight - the day after Firehawk’s rebellion
i can't stop sweating or control my feet
got a twenty-stone monkey that i just can't beat
i can stage a situation, but i just can't eat
and there's a feeling, you're replacing embrace

the emptiness of camp is what drove Sandyspots away from it.
the opposite used to be the case - bursting to the brim with his Clanmates, whom he loves, but still overwhelming and crowded and Sandyspots wasn’t a social cat by any means. but when he left camp close to twilight, his need for peace didn’t stem from a bustling Clan.
how had he failed so spectacularly? StarClan themselves had given him the answer, and still, StreamClan was fractured due to his actions. the emptiness of camp, the murmuring between Clanmates, the cold nests in the warriors den…
because of Firehawk. because of him.
Sandyspots’ paws brought him upriver of Brokenheart’s Willow. it’s a familiar path past the willow tree, which had long lost its leaves, coming inland a bit to find a fallen log on a little hill.
it seemed much more alive in Ravengaze’s memory, he realizes. much warmer than the cold, dead log he sees before him, covered in snow and branches of foliage.
Ravengaze…when the tom had come into camp with OakClan’s herbs, Sandyspots wasn’t able to pin down one specific emotion. shock, of course, that the dark warrior had accompanied Firehawk on such a mission. anger, regrettably, that Ravengaze thought he would be pleased with stolen herbs.
and beneath it all, to his dismay, was a strange affection.
it was wrong of Ravengaze, obviously. and there was going to be consequences for such a foolish act. but he did it for Sandyspots, because he’d been struggling with his herb stores and wanted to help.
the anger and affection swirled together in a confusing storm of emotion. and coming to their log surely wasn’t going to help because it just made Sandyspots want to forgive the foolish tom and sink back into their memories.
his gaze lifts from the log and up to Silverpelt. and Sandyspots is tempted to start scolding the stars themselves for his own mistakes.
It's stated in the rules that replies must have a minimum of six sentences. Additionally, as above, all replies must be in paragraph style third person. A reply is exactly as it sounds - a response to a starter, or another reply. Replies should capture your characters reaction to what they are dealing with and appropriately address any important events from the starter or reply preceding it. Meaning, if you join a roleplay, your character should not be in a completely different location and unable to interact with any other other characters in the scene.
Starters that do not make sense with prior material will be nulled by mods and members will be asked to rewrite them.
