When reviewing the lore, it is recommended you read the most recent and current arc to have a decent grasp on the story. Everything else is years-worth of lore and backstory, and not necessary to joining rp in The Vale! You can read the older arcs for fun though.
The first gathering of Newleaf was interrupted in the midst of Snowstar’s speech; a tom by the name of Anubis arrived, claiming that he was a God and that the Clans should abandon their stars and turn to him. When he was faced with doubt, Anubis proceeded to shock every cat in attendance by manifesting and striking the earth with lightning, threatening Lionstar’s mate, Soilsprout, and thus prompting the MeadowClan leader to attack. Anubis landed a direct attack on Lionstar, claiming one of his lives and thus ushering OakClan and StreamClan to flee with their Clan mates. Littleshimmer of MeadowClan turned her back on her Clan and swore allegiance to Anubis, leaving with him.
On the same night, immediately after the gathering, Anubis interrupted OakClan’s Clan meeting. After Jadekit made a fool of him, Anubis set out to attack, being stopped by Snowstar who then lost a life when met with one of Anubis’ lightning attacks. Anubis fled the Clan after this, and shortly after appeared in StreamClan while Alderstar was giving his Clan meeting. He managed to convince two warriors, Umberfang and Russetcloud, to join his cause, before departing with his new disciples.
The Clans had been hard at work. A meeting between the leaders suggested that they use the MeadowClan tunnel complex in order to trap Anubis, however OakClan disagreed with this plan and refused to take part. OakClan departed from the meeting after tense words are exchanged.
Upon returning from the meeting, Frostcloud, an OakClan queen, reported the plans ofthe leaders discussion to Anubis in Frogsong Swamp. She was seen by Foxpaw, who reports back to Snowstar. Frostcloud returns to camp with a tense trial awaiting her. Snowstar attacks Frostcloud after a heated exchange, which prompts the arrival of Anubis to rescue his helper. Anubis and Frostcloud depart from OakClan, and in their wake, a terrible, pro-longed thunderstorm rolled over Vale.
As the terrible rain storm rages on, the Vale is suffering as a result. The currents are unstable, it’s cold even despite it being Greenleaf, and tensions are high - high enough that a skirmish breaks out between OakClan and MeadowClan after an OakClan patrol accidentally wanders over the border. This leads to higher tensions in MeadowClan, where Lionstar scolds the patrol before the Clan and temporarily demotes deputy Addercatcher, who then resigns from his position. Magmaclaw is appointed in his place.
A few days after the skirmish, a flash-flood whisks away several Clan cats and drags them far away from the Vale, dumping them into a strange, unknown world where the colors are off and the stones glow. The cats from StreamClan were Piperpaw, Peachblossom, Otterfang, and Mudbelly. The cats from MeadowClan were Eveningpaw and Beetlespeck. The cats from OakClan were Bonepaw, Eagletalon, Dewshine, and Sleetfoot.
It has now been two moons since Anubis’ reign of terror began. As the Clans join together for a gathering, Anubis appears at the very end and gives the Clan cats a final choice; join him or die. Burrpelt of StreamClan rushes at him, leading to Anubis ending the toms life. As Anubis readies to destroy the Clan cats, another being comes down from the clouds to stop him- a she-cat named Edona. After some convincing words Anubis finally relents and disappears into the unknown, and Edona returns to the stars. It seems... things are over?
As the Gods depart, their gazes linger on OakClan for just a moment, and then they are gone.
It has been once moon since the Clan cats were swept out of the Vale and into a strange underground world, full of gray grass and glowing plants. They are then found by a group of cats with wings! No, wait, they’re gliders! These strangers introduce themselves as cats of CaveClan; cats descended from an ancient group that had been swept in by the current alongside twolegs. Much to the horror of the Vale warriors, they have yet to find their way out. The Clan cats are permitted to remain with CaveClan as they continue their quest for freedom, and hope their combined efforts will be enough. They are acquainted with Sindria, CaveClan leader, and Poppy, a cat with the fascinating power to heal.
The Vale cats quickly learn that CaveClan is a lot more complex than it initially seemed. After a moon of peace, unique glowing animals, and even learning the exhilarating feeling of flight, the camp is raided by terrible monsters; a looming beast known as the Reaper King, and all of its terrifying little underlings known as Reapers. The gate that protected their home is destroyed, and it is then that Sindria and Poppy come clean; a prophecy foretelling the arrival of heroes has loomed over CaveClan for moons, and they believe the Vale warriors to be their escape. At first the Vale cats feel initially betrayed to have been kept out of such a big secret, but (for the most part) put that aside, deciding that they will continue to help find an escape.
Another moon after Reaper attack, a bloodied group of cats return to camp called the Scouts. They had departed a party of six and return a party of three, including their leader Fable. Fable details the horrible fate that stole her Scouts; they had encountered the Reaper nest, and were swarmed. They hardly escaped with their lives, but despite the tremendous losses, return with a glimmer of hope: they may have found the exit at last. The only problem is that the exit is located in the heart of the nest, which is a very difficult area to access. They decide they will spend the next series of days devising a plan and recovering, and then preparing for a trip out to the nest.
Nearly three weeks of preparation has led up to the Final Journey; an end-all mission with the combined efforts of the Vale Heroes and CaveClan in an effort to escape the Underground. They have a map, they have a plan, and they have hope; may it be enough to get them safely to the end.
The Final Journey proceeds as expected, however, after descending deeper into the cave the CaveClan cats and the Vale Heroes find that their path has been sealed up, while a new tunnel had opened, leading into a dark, frigid unknown.
A trap was waiting - the CaveClan and Vale cats, set and baited by the Reaper itself. The tunnel led down into the Reaper’s Nest, where dozens of eggs were incubating, ready to hatch. In an eventful and climatic final stand in their final effort to free themselves, Mudbelly of StreamClan, Eagletalon and Sleetfoot of OakClan, Beetlespeck of MeadowClan, and several CaveClan cats gave their life in order to ensure success in escape.
This ended in the fiery destruction of the Reaper, the liberation of the CaveClan cats and the Vale Heroes, and the death of the CaveClan leader, Sindria, who passed after seeing the first and last sunrise of her life. With their mission complete at last and freedom attained, CaveClan and the Vale Heroes went their separate ways, the Vale cats splitting up even further when they reached their homes.
As the events of CaveClan and the Underground unfold, the Clan cats on the Overworld are thriving now that Anubis is no longer around to terrorize them. Kittens are being born in all of the Clans, the prey is running well, and the weather is wonderful.
On OakClan territory, Snowstar and Blizzardpaw encounter a dying Frostcloud alongside a devastatingly familiar kit. In a strike of lightning, Anubis himself appears and dismisses the Clan cats, allowing them to take the kitten while he mourns the loss of his mate. Blizzardpaw decides to name her brother Thunderkit, and the young tom is taken into OakClan.
Moons of peace come to an abrupt end when at the OakClan-StreamClan border, Alderstar behaves uncharacteristically aggressively and goads a fight with Condorblaze, a young OakClan warrior. The two are pulled apart by their Clan mates and are escorted home.
Patchedowl, StreamClan deputy, is found maimed with the scent of fox clinging to him. Alderstar, who has suddenly fallen ill, puts off finding a new deputy while Mintripple attempts to cure her leaders ailment.
Just a few days after the battle against OakClan, Alderstar is found dead in his nest, all nine of his lives claimed by an unknown illness that was impossible to stop. Many cats mourn his loss, however a whisper begins among the Clan; after losing their leader and deputy both, are they perhaps being punished by StarClan?
A sign found in the MeadowClan territory by StreamClan medicine cat Mintripple and her escort, Firepaw, lead them to appointing Pouncewing as the new StreamClan leader.
In OakClan, horror and confusion spread through the Clan as Morningsun is found dead in their nest, their throat cut open and blood pooling on the earth. There is no culprit to be named or even suspected, which leaves OakClan all the more baffled and uneasy.
At last, the missing cats have returned home from their entrapment in the Underground. The apprentices were given their warrior names, the fallen were mourned, and the safe return of the rest were greeted with celebration and joy across the valley. Dew departs from OakClan to reign as leader of CaveClan. It seems at last that, things are returning to normal...
Leaf-fall has finally begun. The greens of summer are giving ways to the orange and reds of autumn.
CaveClan has finally found their home, and is starting to establish themselves as a real Vale Clan. They are recruiting cats steadily, while trying to make sure that they have found their forever home.
The medicine cats come together beneath the light of the Half-Moon to make their monthly visit to their ancestors. However, instead of being met with a comforting starscape, they awake in a dank, foreboding forest. There are no stars, there is no wind; just the smell of decay and death. They are greeted by a massive gathering of cats, many of which don horrific, perpetually bleeding wounds. The cat ‘leading’ the gathering is a massive tom named Sleetstar, who then turns to a cat in the crowd - Addercatcher - and asks the MeadowClan tom what he thinks. However, When Addercatcher does not give Sleestar the answer he likes, the leader instructs the ranks of morbid cats to attack, viciously murdering Addercatcher. The Medicine Cats, before they can escape, are attacked and pinned down by these vicious ranks of cats, who warn them of a dark future to come, before releasing the medicine cats and letting them go back home.
Following the meeting:
- Woolmoon sprints home to find Addercatcher a mutilated, mangled mess in his nest. Tensions rise very quickly in MeadowClan, involving the medicine cat accusing Addercatcher of possible treachery, a brief fight between Thistledusk and Woolmoon, and even the accusation of Lionstar being behind the murder given by Plumfrost. Magmaclaw dismisses the angry parties and the Clan prepares for Addercatcher’s funeral.
- Quailpool and Mintypaw rush right to Snowstar to inform the leader about what is going on. This is done quietly, before the rest of the camp awakens, and they agree to keep their attention open for anything that may be a clue to the dark forest.
- Mintripple sleeps on the idea of telling Pouncestar about her dream. As a result, Pouncestar is the only leader who does not get the full story from her medicine cats and is left in the dark by the time the gathering has rolled around.
Between the Half-Moon gathering and the Vale-wide gathering, Lionstar, Magmaclaw, and Silenthawk find an abandoned kitten who is overseen by a large raven. They quickly realize that the kitten had belonged to Shadowpounce, a queen who never returned from her walk that evening. The raven refuses to give the kitten up, and so the toms take the raven and his guardian back to camp.
At the gathering, CaveClan stirs up interest when Dew brings them there. After a cold exchange between Dew and her former leader Snowstar, the leaders all agree to at least be peaceable while the gathering announcements go on. All four leaders give their speeches, and as Dew looks to the others for approval, suddenly an eclipse blacks out the moon. However when the moon returned, the stars did not, leaving them beneath an empty sky devoid of their ancestors. Pouncestar declares that this might be disapproval from CaveClan, and after Otterfang jumps to the defense of the new Clan, he is exiled, joining Dew while his sister, Peachblossom, joins them. The Clans all split ways with unease and rising tensions.
After the gathering:
- In OakClan, Snowstar calls together a Clan meeting to discuss the events and the potential causes. After a tense exchange between the medicine cat and a warrior, Foxblaze, Snowstar decidedly denies Quailpool’s request of secrecy, deeming this matter too important to hide from the Clan. She dismisses them with the ruling that she does not quite think CaveClan is the cause of the stars, and tells them not to let fear rule them.
- In CaveClan, Dew has summoned a meeting to reassure her Clan mates and officially inaugurate Otterfang and Peachblossom into the ranks.
- In StreamClan, Pouncestar reconsiders her accusation of CaveClan, however, her fury at Mintripple’s failure to report the dark dreams leads her to decide she needs to speak to another Clan so she can find out what happened. This leads Pouncestar to visit OakClan, where Mintypaw and Quailpool fill the StreamClan leader in on the threat of shadowy cats and a dark forest.
In OakClan, Silverhawk and Maplepaw encounter an odd tom named Divinia. After being joined by Snowstar, Divinia relays an ominous message seemingly pointed at the leader, regarding a ruined temple and an unwelcome guest. Snowstar is promptly enraged by this and has Silverhawk chase the tom off.
Snowstar steadily descends into what some cats think to be madness. She has become a cold, strict dictator who enforcers her rules by any means necessary.
This leads to a climatic Clan meeting.:
- Snowstar berates the newly named apprentices, Shatteredpaw, Bluepaw, and Alabasterpaw, before the entire Clan. This sparks outrage from many of the warriors, which Snowstar quells by demotion and exile. Stagtuft and Foxfire are exiled, and Dovepool goes with them.
- Duskprowl is demoted as deputy in this same meeting, and the rank of deputy is abolished altogether, being replaced by a rank called Enforcers; a rank dedicated to pushing Snowstar’s agenda. Thunderhawk and Silverhawk are named as the first two Enforcers of OakClan.
- Snowstar tacks on one last bit of startling information. Naming Foxblaze as Alabasterpaw’s mentor, she gives Foxblaze two moons to make a worthwhile, or else they’ll both be exiled for being useless.
In MeadowClan, a group of rogues ambush a patrol consisting of Silenthawk, Blightheart, Stagblossom, Minnowpaw, and Poppydusk, resulting in a brief but intense battle.:
- The group of rogues is led by a tom named Gado, who reveals himself to be Silenthawk’s brother. He wants Silenthawk, and to prove his message, Gado has one of his rogues brutally murder Stagblossom before the entire Clan. Stagblossom is taken home for burial, where shock and outrage ripple across the Clan.
- In the days that follow, the rogues begin to do a number on MeadowClan territory. Tearing up the earth, killing prey and leaving it to rot, shredding herbs. Attempting to starve MeadowClan out and force them to give up Silenthawk. In an attempt to stop this, a patrol consisting of Silenthawk, Haywhisker, Magmaclaw, and Rootscratch set out. They encounter a she-cat, and one of Gado’s lackies, named Mazikeen, and she is taken into camp. Mazikeen reveals the location of the rogue camp, and MeadowClan plots to rid of the rogues once and for all.
- In a grand final battle between MeadowClan and the rogues, the rogues come realize that Gado is no leader they wish to follow and cease following his orders. Lionstar, who sustained severe injuries, powers through the agony and is able to put an end to Gado, effectively protecting MeadowClan from the rogues.
In StreamClan, Shadowlight is found dead after contracting what appears to be an unknown illness. The she-tom was buried where he was found to avoid potentially spreading whatever it was he had, however, Twilightflower makes a visit to the body, potentially putting herself and StreamClan at risk.
OakClan continues its derailment. After Vulturefrost gets carried away in training and overpowers Blizzardpaw, Snowstar has Silverhawk punish the tom by inflicting wounds on him and forbidding Vulturefrost to fight back. This punishment leads to a divide between Jackdawtalon and Swanstrike, Vulturefrost’s parents.
The next OakClan meeting proved to be as interesting as the last. The six Snowspawn and other apprentices are named warriors at last. In the spirit of a good mood and to appease the will of the majority, Snowstar even grants Foxblaze and Alabasterpaw an additional moon to work on her training. This is openly objected to by Silvergaze, who questions Snowstar’s viability. This results in Snowstar becoming enraged, and deciding on a new condition: At the end of the moon, Alabasterpaw and Silvergaze will fight for their place within the Clan. The winner will remain, but the loser will be exiled. This puts an immense pressure on Foxblaze and Alabasterpaw, and causes the Clan to become even more uneasy around each other. Noting the pretty absence of Condorblaze and Vulturefrost, they are exiled temporarily from the Clan until they can remember what it means to be a warrior.
After an additional moon, the battle has arrived. Silvergaze and Alabasterpaw face off in a brutal battle for their place in OakClan. By the end both cats are bloodied and exhausted, and Snowstar decides to exile all three cats anyway, simply because she can. A massive outcry from the Clan causes Snowstar to reconsider her decision and she permits all three cats to remain. Condorblaze and Vulturefrost return from their exile, and Condorblaze declares himself an enemy to OakClan. An intense battle between Condorblaze and Vulturefrost result in Condorblaze fleeing the Clan, cursing them in his wake.
Following this meeting, Jackdawtalon pursues Snowstar into the forest to ensure she is okay. This eventually leads to Snowstar asking Jackdawtalon to become an enforcer, to replace Thunderhawk and to help keep the Clan in line. Jackdawtalon agrees.
A sickness breaks across the Vale and ravages the Clans for a few moons, cats becoming extremely ill and some even passing away due to the intensity. However, after some time it ebbs and cats recover.
Junipersong is exiled from OakClan in secrecy after confronting Snowstar about her cruel behavior. Thunderhawk witnesses this, and disappears soon after, no cat knowing what became of him.
OakClan warriors Blizzardthorn and Thunderstrike cross the border into MeadowClan one night and hunt prey, boldly eating on their land. They are encountered by Haywhisker, who attempts to chase them out with force when they don’t move. Blizzardthorn is quick to attack Haywhisker and overpower him, however Cedarstrike and Batbark from MeadowClan come to assist their Clanmate. An intense battle eventually leaves both parties scarred and OakClan returns to their territory.
Back in OakClan camp, Blizzardthorn and Thunderstrike are met by concerned Clan mates. They lie, telling the Clan that MeadowClan cats attacked them for hunting a rabbit that came onto OakClan territory. This enrages the Clan, and Snowstar declares that the Clan needs to act. Quailpool opposes this, and so Snowstar decides to hold a Clan meeting to let the warriors decide. In a surprising turn of events, OakClan is overwhelmingly in favor of battle with MeadowClan. Snowstar officially declares war, and dismisses the meeting to plan.
A few days after the declaration Snowstar gathers the Clan for battle so that they can discuss plans before setting out to rage war. In this meeting she also names a new rank; Peacekeepers. She names Maplethorn, Blizzardthorn, and Webfang as the first peacekeepers of OakClan. She also names Talltree as the third Enforcer.
In MeadowClan, Peachorchid, Lionstar, and Woolmoon make the journey to Starlight Cavern to begin the 9 lives ceremony. Rather than awakening in StarClan, they awake in the Place of No Stars, surrounded by fiendish faces and menacing grins. The process of transferring lives was painful, subjecting Lionstar to horrific wounds while battering Peachorchid with new life. They were faced by their former Clan mates, a scornful Flailspring and a forgiving Addercatcher, and several cats they did not know. By the end of if they were Peachstar and Liontuft - and Liontuft was grievously injured.
Following her declaration, just three days later - on the same night as the ceremony - Snowstar launches a devastating attack on MeadowClan after giving her Clan an objective; raid the medicine den and shred whatever they can’t carry. The battle takes a fatal turn as Warblerwing, a MeadowClan warrior, is killed, and OakClan cats attempt to raid the nursery. A lightning strike causes the battle to end, and OakClan retreats back to their territory.
Upon returning home to witness the carnage, Peachstar ran to StreamClan to explain the situation and request aid. Pouncestar agreed, and she gathered
Snowstar announces the fourth and final Enforcer in OakClan, Blizzardthorn, and declares a new era for the Vale in which they are never pushed around again. However cats are in doubt, hearing accusations of being in the wrong and seeing the attempted raid on the nursery. But those loyal to Snowstar have too large of an influence to be outweighed.
The gathering is upon the Vale two weeks later, and tensions are at an all time high as cats aren’t sure what to expect. OakClan is collectively ostracized by the other three Clans. The gathering begins with Snowstar’s yowl and her passing the floor to Pouncestar, who gives a vague threat to OakClan in her report. Peachstar goes next, and he is blatant in his report about OakClan’s assault. Peachstar offers Dewstar go next, but Snowstar interrupts with her own report - an accusation of MeadowClan’s prey theft, and a bold declaration of forcing the Vale to kneel before OakClan.
This is met with outrage and, from Peachstar, laughter, which throws Snowstar into a rage. She attacks Peachstar and disarms Dewstar, before engaging in battle with Pouncestar. Dewstar, having had a gash made in her throat and her head struck against the stony floor, was in the process of losing a life. She awoke in the dark forest, and soon found two cats; a ginger tom, and the spirit of the true Snowstar, trapped in the Place of No Stars while an Imposter inhabited her body. Dewstar was able to lead Snowstar back to the site of their bodies, where the two of them reconciled before Dew awoke. In that same instant Pouncestar claimed a life from Snowstar, with the support of OakClan warriors despite her own inhibitions. When the OakClan leader awoke her spirit had returned to her body: the Imposter had been banished.
Jackdawtalon, driven by rage at losing his mate that was the Imposter, attempted to kill Snowstar. This results in Jackdawtalon being killed by Duskprowl and Blazefall.
As the Clans finally return to their home, the moon sets on the reign of the OakClan Imposter and rises with Snowstar in her rightful place. There is much healing and work to be done, however...
The snow has started to melt and the prey is returning to the Vale as the temperatures slowly rise. This has caused the White River to swell and become even more perilous than it already is. In StreamClan, this urges Pouncestar to order her Clan to move higher up in camp, to avoid the rising waters.
Rain has taken the place of snow, and while the other three Clans remain relatively unaffected, the threat of a flood in StreamClan continues to climb with every passing day. This reaches its breaking point when, one night in late Newleaf, a vicious flashflood sweeps over the territory, forcing the Clan to evacuate.
Several cats die during the StreamClan flood, including a handful of warriors and medicine cat apprentice Irismoon, leaving Lizardnose without an apprentice despite her old age. As the sun rises, the rain finally coming to an end, a besodden StreamClan finds themselves without a home.
In MeadowClan, an era of peace is broken by a horrible revelation; deputy Plumfrost is found dead in his nest, brutalized to a pulp. This causes confusion and doubt in MeadowClan, as no one saw it happen - not even Ravencrest, who had been sitting vigil that night. Some cats blame the new warrior for being not attentive enough or perhaps even being the one responsible. Plumfrost's family attempts to say their final goodbyes, but a sharp rebuke and dismissal from Peachstar has the Clan questioning their leaders sudden callousness. Peachstar makes an enemy out of Plumfrost's firstborn son, Ripplefrost.
In the wake of having no home, Pouncestar makes a visit to MeadowClan and requests temporary sanctuary while the water drains from their camp and they repair their home. Peachstar kindly permits StreamClan to stay, and thus StreamClan and MeadowClan share a home for the next moon. During this time, StreamClan names a new deputy, young warrior Firehawk, after former deputy Rubbletuft died rescuing Troutkit from the flood. Friends are made between Clans, and a strong friendship forms between MeadowClan apprentice Hollowpaw, and StreamClan apprentice Claypaw.
At last, StreamClan camp is ready to house them again, and StreamClan goes home, promising to repay MeadowClan's kindness one day.
Lizardnose decidedly names a young warrior apprentice, Sandypaw, as her new apprentice. Sandypaw accepts, and he moves into the medicine den to begin his training.
This is just in time for the medicine cat's Half Moon Meeting.
The medicine cats gather beneath the light of the Half Moon. Woolmoon of MeadowClan, Mintypool of OakClan, Lizardnose and Sandypaw of StreamClan, and Owldusk of CaveClan, marking CaveClan's first medicine cat gathering since their arrival to the Vale.
They talk briefly, and as Woolmoon attempts to share something, Lizardnose insists they do the meeting first before getting into chatter. Woolmoon agrees, and together the medicine cats enter Starlight Cavern and touched their noses to the glittering Moonstone. When they awaken, they are not in StarClan, but in a foggy realm where trees are both above and around them, somehow.
A cat confronts the group, and introduces themself as Frostshade, who tells the medicine cats that they are somewhere called the Inbetween. After judging the medicine cats, they instruct the group to follow them, warning them not to get lost or else they'll end up in the Dark Forest. Frostshade leads the medicine cats to a starry warrior - a she-cat named Larkdawn, who introduces herself and begins to explain where StarClan has gone.
A thick wall of mist has rolled through, trapping StarClan within the confines of their starry territory and blocking their view and access to the living. They were able to find a weak point in the mist, but it existed only long enough for Larkdawn to slip through before the wall fortified. Larkdawn then goes on to tell the living cats that the Vale is being pushed to the brink of extinction; a threat looms large enough to destroy them all.
The medicine cats are then given an omen, and then a prophecy.

The medicine cats have questions. They try to get answers from Larkdawn, however, before she can answer, she and Frostshade detect a threat lurking around them. Larkdawn apologizes, before she ejects the living cats out of the dream.
As the medicine cats rush home to inform their leaders, thoughts of catching up long forgotten, a single star can be seen on the horizon. It has five distinct points, illuminating the paths home in starlight.
In OakClan, cats have started to whisper among themselves, doubting Snowstar's ability to lead after everything, and some dismayed in her choice of deputy, the title having been returned to Duskprowl. Other cats are reveling in the return of their true leader, and hope that the Imposter is a thing of the past while seeking to banish her legacy. It's caused a very subtle tension, but Snowstar believes it will soothe out with time.
At night, in all Clans, some cats have started to have strange dreams. A pungent forest and shadowy warriors that promise them notoriety, power, and success. Some cats are tempted by this budding darkness...
The Vale had its first normal gathering in seasons. Though the tensions were high between Pouncestar and the rest of the leaders, for the most part, cats seemed to get along and were able to share tongues before the official meeting start.
However, when it came time for Pouncestar to take her turn, she remained silent. Clouds rolled over the moon before StreamClan could go, and the Clans departed to go home for the evening.
The following morning, Pouncestar is discovered brutally murdered in her nest. Coming as an extreme shock to the Clan. After cleaning her up and having her vigil, deputy Firehawk called the Clan together the following morning to announce her trip to Starlight Cavern. This is halted by Sandypaw, who insists that Firehawk cannot become leader of StreamClan. Tensions flare, however ultimately, it is decided that Firehawk will not be leader.
In CaveClan, only a few short days after the gathering, Sunbriar is found having passed from old age in his nest. CaveClan mourns the loss of their deputy, who dedicated a good few moons before his time had come.
Things proceeded to get darker and darker for the Vale.
The mysterious night-killings increased in intensity and commonality across all the Clans. MeadowClan lost their leader Peachstar and numerous warriors, StreamClan lost Pouncestar and more warriors, and OakClan lost troves of cats to the hidden threat.
A terrible outbreak of Greencough, coupled with the night killings, made the Vale Clans a terrifying place to be. Some cats, such as young Duckwing of MeadowClan, opted to flee for safety.
The darkness came to a head when Blizzardtalon and Jackalshade, two OakClan warriors, launched an unprovoked attack on a StreamClan patrol. Blizzardtalon forced Jackalshade to kill Leopardpounce, another OakClan warrior who had been present, citing that she was weak for not joining in the attack on the StreamClan cats.
Naturally, the two did not confess to this, and blamed StreamClan. Snowstar took a diplomatic patrol to their neighbors to try and verify the claims or identify a suspect, but all that came about was an increase in tension between StreamClan and OakClan, while civil unrest caused OakClan to be further divided. Cats were angry that Leopardpounce's killer remained at large, unaware that her murderers sleep among them.
Two moons after the death of Peachstar, Woolmoon was finally given a vision - by Hollowcry, a Dark Forest warrior, who showed the medicine cat a dark void. Ultimately, Woolmoon decided that this meant warrior Voidglare was meant to be named the new leader of MeadowClan.
Upon Voidglare being named in front of the Clan, a solar eclipse blocked out the sun, showing billions of stars overhead - a sight that hasn't been seen in the Vale in over a year. MeadowClan - and all of the Clans - were confused. But when the sun set that night, many were shocked - and overjoyed - to see that the stars had reappeared as suddenly as they had vanished.
Voidglare was able to access the real StarClan when visiting Starlight Cavern, and left anointed with 9 lives and the name Voidstar. Upon his return to camp, he named Silenthawk his deputy.
The return of the stars seems to be - and hopefully is - a sign of better things yet to come.
Maybe they're finally out of the dark... For now.
StreamClan finds itself facing a severe issue; it's the dead of Leafbare and there are no herbs to be seen. Sandyspots has reported there being absolutely no herbs left anywhere on the StreamClan territory. This puts the Clan in a tough position, as their only options are to pray that sickness doesn't come, or swallow their pride and request help from other Clans.
A relatively normal gathering came and went, giving the Clans some sense of normalcy for a brief period of time.
However, it was after the gathering that the darkness in OakClan finally boiled over.
That night, an assassination attempt was set for Snowstar by Jackalshade, Owlstep, and initially Sheepblaze and Serpentfrost. However, the latter two had a change of heart, Sheepblaze fleeing the scene and Serpentfrost warning Snowstar about what lie ahead. Snowstar was determined to try and have a conversation and walked headfirst into the trap, whereas Serpentfrost ran back to camp to rally a patrol.
When the patrol arrived, they were met with the gruesome sight of their bloodied leader and the two warriors, Jackalshade having lost his eye in the fight. The patrol managed to end the conflict and in Snowstar's final breath she exiled the brothers, before collapsing into the snow.
Snowstar now resides within the medicine den, comatose. This leaves Duskprowl as interim leader until Snowstar wakes up - if she ever wakes up.
Meanwhile in StreamClan, a patrol led by Firehawk crossed OakClan's border and began to steal herbs in order to replenish Sandyspot's den. However they were caught by Nightfang, OakClan's medicine cat, and confronted. This only worsened tensions between Firehawk and Alderstar, and after the raid against OakClan's herbs, Firehawk openly rebelled against Alderstar. Her decision was clear - she and her followers would leave StreamClan for one moon, and when she returns, the Clan as a whole will decide who they want as Clan leader. Firehawk's group was dubbed RiverClan, and they left the Clan.
In MeadowClan, things were going relatively well when a small group going by the Sunrise Chasers came across the Vale, seeking aid from their journey through a hard Leafbare. The group was led by a strange, yet friendly tom named Archibald, who taught about the Sun and Moon and the Earth. Though immediately, it was clear that the Sunrise Chasers' beliefs differed greatly from the Clans, and along with the group's attitude toward others, friction quickly grew between then and the Clan.
The boiling point happened during Jaguarpaw and Mistypaw's warrior ceremony, where Archibald demanded he and his group be given warrior names since they follow the ways of the Stars, as well. Voidstar refused, and the two cats argued before the ceremony was quickly ended.
CaveClan wasn't truly able to spend Newleaf in much peace. During the apprentice ceremony of Swooppaw, Hickorypaw, Sparkpaw, and Flamepaw, the mountain cats were struck by a landslide. Fortunately, no cats were killed, but the entire Clan was relocated farther down the mountain in the lower caves. No cat knows if the landslide caused the disappearance of Rumblepaw, Rockypaw, Slitherpaw, Batpaw, and Raptorpaw, but the scouts uninjured in the landslide continue to search for them.
Dewstar, injured and worried for her Clan, went to Snowstar for help. CaveClan was unable to care for their injured, and so OakClan offered to take in them in until a new camp was found. Wolfwhisker, CaveClan's new deputy, stayed behind to organize the remaining warriors, search for the missing apprentices, and overlook the search for the new camp.
In StreamClan, Firehawk's defection would only caused more problems for OakClan. She took a small patrol of her followers to move StreamClan's border over a small corner of OakClan land. A patrol happened across the raiders, and a fight broke out. Just as it seemed StreamClan were about to win the battle, an OakClan warrior named Cranestrike killed Bearclaw, one of Firehawk's supporters. Shocked and grief-stricken, Firehawk retreated back to their camp with the injured.
Firehawk had lost faith in her own leadership, and realized her warriors deserved a better leader and a whole Clan at their side. She sneaked back into StreamClan territory and told Sandyspots of the battle, knowing the medicine cat would come to the aid of his former Clanmates. After telling him where they were, and to bring them back to StreamClan, she disappeared. And Sandyspots was left to convince Alderstar to bring the traitors back into his ranks. At first, Alderstar was skeptical - he wanted to banish the defecting cats just as soon as they were healthy enough to fend for themselves. But Sandyspots, and cats who felt as he did, managed to talk their leader into forgiving their transgressions. Though the RiverClan cats were brought back into StreamClan's ranks, the tension remains.
Spiderleap is named deputy of StreamClan, in the wake of a turbulent time. He finds himself with the impossible task of mending the rift between the StreamClan loyalists and the former RiverClan cats, as well as the rift between Alderstar and seemingly everybody. Alderstar finds that he is quickly losing popularity among his Clan, especially when he decides to keep the land that Firehawk stole from OakClan. Many cats disagree with this decision but Alderstar overlooks them, proceeding to hold firm to keeping the territory and remarking the border daily.
A gathering is finally held between the four Clans, and tensions are high between StreamClan and OakClan. Petty remarks are made, and it eventually leads to an explosive altercation between Snowstar and Alderstar. The two begin hurling insults at each other until a strange voice interrupts them.
Stepping out into the open are two cats no one has ever seen before. One is a tall she-cat with unnervingly long canine teeth, and the other is the largest cat anyone has ever seen. The she-cat introduces them as Tizporah and Ragnarok, and they inform the Clans that she and her cats - known as the Coven - will be moving into the Temple of the Lost in the Voidland territory. After implying the Clans stay off of their land, the leaders do not take this lightly and suggest that Tziporah and the Coven do the same. Alderstar is particularly outspoken during this, and disrespects the two cats outright.
A few weeks pass by, and strange things begin to happen. Pinewhisker, an OakClan warrior, goes missing while on patrol, and a StreamClan cat named Peachfuzz vanishes from the territory while on the hunt. After strange scents are found around the OakClan and StreamClan borders, cats from this Coven arrive at each Clan, inviting the high ranks and a few cats of their choice to a grand Feast in the temple. The feast is to ease tensions between the Clans and Coven, and the Clans all reluctantly agree to go.
Another week passes by, and it is time for the feast.
Each Clan arrives, one by one, and are led into the Temple, to the dining hall where prey is laid out for the Clans to eat. The Clans are then introduced to the Coven Core - five cats that make up the Covens leadership. Two are Tziporah and Ragnarok, and the others are Calliope, Seraph, and Okanu. As a few of the Clan cats begin to eat, Tziporah speaks up and shares that there is a main course, accompanied by two special guests.
On that note, the main course is brought out - the dead bodies of Pinewhisker and Peachfuzz. Immediately, the Clans are in an uproar, thinking it to be a sick joke. Voidstar attempts to rush in to grab the bodies with the help of Silenthawk, however, they are both stopped by Ragnarok and Seraph, who body the MeadowClan pair and hold them down long enough for Tziporah to introduce the special guests…
Who happen to be the exiled Jackalshade and Owlstep, now named Jackal and Owl.
While the Clans are reeling, Tziporah issues an attack - Ragnarok rushes across the dining room and begins a brutal assault on Alderstar. While this happens, Jackal begins to explain the true intentions of the Coven, which is that they are here to force the Clans out of the Vale. The Clans have one moon to leave, or face being annihilated by the Coven. With that, the Clans are dismissed from the temple and led back home - but not before Calliope approaches Woolmoon and makes contact with him, unbeknownst to the Clan cats corrupting the medicine cat’s soul.
Following the feast, Alderstar loses all of his lives, leading to the ascension of Spiderleap to Spiderstar, which seems to bring some stability to StreamClan after Alderstar’s short but infamous reign. All four Clans begin to prepare for war during this time, and the scents that linger at the borders become much more pronounced.
In the background, four cats begin to meet in private - cats blessed by StarClan to have special powers that seem specific to defeating the Coven. Sandyspots of StreamClan, Ferretpounce of MeadowClan, Berrypath of CaveClan, and Jasperpaw of OakClan. These cats begin to meet regularly in secret in order to help one another hone their abilities. Sandyspots has the ability to walk in dreams and memories, Jasperpaw has an unbeatable strength, Berrypath is able to use his scent to see visions of the past, and Ferretpounce.. Well, he has yet to discover his own power.
The Coven have their own tricks though. Finding a willing cat to be a vessel, Okanu is able to channel a God into a rogue named Flicker, who then inherits the ability to strike flame with his paws. He is then taken in by the Coven and revered as a sacred being - but at a cost. He must help the Coven further their plans against the Clan cats.
A skirmish on OakClan territory ends with Snowstar and Björn, a Coven cat, fall into the stream and get taken away to StreamClan territory. The two wash up on the riverbank and are found by a patrol, who takes them back to camp. Snowstar is tended to while Björn is held. When OakClan comes to collect their leader, Snowstar takes Björn with them, and holds him in camp until she can decide what to do with him.
On the day that marks the end of the moon, a loner she-cat named Stel appears on StreamClan territory, and after an encounter with a StreamClan patrol, has a vision about a fire decimating the territory. Her vision unnerves the patrol who decides to bring her back to camp so Spiderstar can hear her out. Despite Stel’s insistence, Spiderstar is not sure if he can trust her quite yet, but allows her to stay with StreamClan for the time being until they can decipher her vision.
That same night, StreamClan territory suddenly goes up in flames and flushes the Clan out, killing Tumblestone and Honeypaw in the process. Several cats are horribly injured including Wavepaw and Spiderstar. Firehawk appears from the haze and saves Sandyspots life when the tom is surrounded by fire, and helps the medicine cat get back to his Clan. StreamClan goes to OakClan for help and, despite the rivalry, Snowstar agrees to take StreamClan in and gives them a piece of land to use as a makeshift camp.
During this time, the Coven are celebrating their recent win against the Clans with a grand party! There is food, drink, and music, and while the Coven has a grand ball, Jackal broods over what he feels is wasted time. He interrupts the celebration at first, but then the party is truly shaken when Anubis himself appears. Anubis claims to have heard the Coven’s prayers and intends to help them wipe out the Clans for good. Overjoyed at the help from their God, the Coven parties deep into the night.
An emergency gathering is held a few days later between the Clans, and it is here that much comes to light. The prophecy cats are revealed and expose themselves as StarClan’s chosen, while Snowstar reveals the origin of Jackal and Owl and what that might mean for the Vale. Snowstar then unveils her grand plan to stop the Coven, a unification of all the Clans. The other leaders agree, and by the end of the gathering, ValeClan has been born.
After the gathering, Woolmoon is caught sneaking out of MeadowClan camp, and Ferretpounce follows him to see what is up. It is then that Ferretpounce realizes that Woolmoon has been corrupted, and the two briefly engage in combat until Ferretpounce is able to purify Woolmoon’s soul and banish Calliope’s influence. Relieved to have finally figured out his power and to have helped Woolmoon, he assists the medicine cat back to camp.
The war between ValeClan and the Coven is on as skirmishes begin to break out at the borders, and in StreamClan’s ashen territory as the Coven tries to make their way to Starlight Cavern. Cats from all Clans begin to die or go missing. It’s a race against time as the Clans try to figure out what they Coven is after, while trying to avoid getting wiped out.
In OakClan, Snowstar takes a small group of cats out of camp to interrogate Björn, who eventually spills the Coven’s plan to recruit Anubis and destroy the Clans with the help of their God. When Björn attempts to attack Hailmoon, one of the cats on the patrol and Snowstar’s son, Snowstar springs into action and accidentally kills him in the heat of the moment. Björn’s body is disposed of and a gathering between the leaders is called, where the information is shared and the Clans try and figure out what to do about Anubis. That is when Firehawk crashes the meeting and shares that she has Coven knowledge, thanks to her former mate, who happens to be the son of her kit, Blaze, and a Coven cat.
Firehawk reveals that she knows about the Covens' ploy with Anubis, and where they planned to house the God if he arrived. She shares the location - which is just on the outskirts of Clan territory, and the leaders devise a plan to take care of him before he can become a threat. A patrol of cats are chosen for the mission to extract information from Anubis. Led by Firehawk and Sandyspots, who will use his power to walk in the god's dreams, the patrol poisons a mouse and waits for Anubis to fall asleep. While Sandyspots sleeps beside him, the patrol is confronted by Thunderstrike, the secret bastard son of Anubis - who has also inherited his father's strange abilities. A fight breaks out between Thunderstrike and the patrol, where Duskprowl is seriously injured in the process. Sandyspots finally wakes, having killed Anubis while in his mind, and the patrol is able to escape - but only due to Firehawk, who sacrificed herself to give the patrol enough time to flee.
Back in Clan territory, Sandyspots shares the information he acquired from Anubis - that the Coven will be attacking Starlight Cavern to use it in some sort of ritual. The Coven has been gathering sacrifices for it, and with the power that the Cavern possesses, they will be able to bring forth their Gods.
So with this advanced warning, the Clans divide themselves up to attack the Temple and protect the Cavern. OakClan and StreamClan will be posted at the Cavern, while CaveClan and MeadowClan assault the Temple. And on that night, the war would reach its climax. Many cats died in the fighting - but more Coven cats lost their lives. Among them were all the Coven leaders at the paws of the Five-Pointed Star - the prophecy cats who were the only ones able to truly defeat them.
The battle was long and bloody, and the losses suffered that night will scar the Clans forever. But they protected their homes to the very end.
Following the defeat of the Coven, the four Clans found themselves basking in an era of prosperity and peace. The impact of ValeClan seemed to improve Clan conflicts for the better, the Clans greeting one another at their borders with warm regards. There was a massive influx of kits — cats all over the valley felt that they had brought about an era of calm safe enough to rear their young in.
Among these cats were MeadowClan's Voidstar, who birthed a beautiful litter of kittens with their mate, the former deputy Silenthawk. The birth of their little ones had encouraged Voidstar to think long and hard about their place in the Vale, and ultimately, the dark leader decided that it would suit MeadowClan best's interest if they stepped down. Everyone expected Ravencrest, Voidstar's deputy, to make the journey to Starlight Cavern and gain his nine lives. However, this was not the case; as Voidstar announced their retirement, the named a new cat to be their successor; a noble warrior named Sunfire who had proven himself during the Coven war. This decision was met with mixed reception, and in truth more bad than good, but in the end, Sunstar was named MeadowClan's new leader, creating a tension in the Clan.
In OakClan, it was truly a season of growth. The apprentice den had never been so full, the nursery rang with the mewls of Snowstar's kittens. It was wonderful - but eerily quiet. As is the nature of the Vale, peace was shattered on a random afternoon, with a patrol headed by Junipersong who was accompanied by Widowdusk, Tigerpaw, Goosebelly, and Lionflower. What seemed like an ordinary tour of the territory became the first of many dark days when horrible creatures descended upon the cats. Junipersong was torn apart while the other cats fled up the trees and watched helplessly. Traveling from branch to branch, tree to tree, the living patrol members were able to get back to OakClan camp and report what had happened.
Snowstar, enraged by the patrols abandonment, sent a patrol back out to secure Junipersong's body. In this endeavor, Boulderstep was the next victim of the creatures, and by the end of that day, it was concluded that the creatures in the Vale were not of story or myth at all: somehow, in some way, dogs were now roaming OakClan territory.
Day by day, the threat of the dogs increased, and cats were left confused as to how the canines had come to their territory, and why they were focusing so hard on them. A lead came in the form of a patrol, in which Blizzardtalon, Goosebelly, and Sagesight find a trail of prey leading from MeadowClan, deep into Oak, with the scent of the flower-treading Clan all over the prey. Before they can sit on this revelation for long, the dogs burst out of the underbrush, horrifically maiming Sagesight and narrowly avoiding Goosebelly until Blizzardtalon steps in. By some miracle, the tom is able to scare the beasts away, leading his Clanmates back home with the grim news.
The report of the findings sent OakClan into a spin of bloodlust and demanding revenge, but Snowstar wanted a chance to talk about the findings before doing anything rash. The following day, a diplomatic patrol dispatched to MeadowClan, meeting Sunstar and his still-deputy, Ravencrest. As Snowstar asked if MeadowClan knew anything of the situation, Ravencrest kicked up in agitation, accusing OakClan of accusing them. Sunstar's response to OakClan was cold - while he denied involvement, he stated that MeadowClan would no longer live in OakClan's shadow. When the OakClanners departed that day, there was a bitter taste in their mouths.
It was a deceptively warm and peaceful morning when the dogs attacked. They came thundering into came like some chaotic storm of death and destruction, tearing into any cat they saw and trampling down the bramble bushes like they were nothing. The camp was destroyed and by the end of the attack, numerous cats were dead, some of them including Lionflower, Jayflight, Viperpaw, and the infamous Silverhawk. The dogs decided to occupy the camp after the surviving cats fled with their lives, taking to the old temporary camp StreamClan had lived in after the fire. It was here at the new camp that two spies were caught — MeadowClan warriors, named Daybird and Lionblaze. Being taken prisoner, the two were questioned at the heart of the camp, where Lionblaze declared MeadowClan's involvement with the dogs. This was enough to fling Snowstar into fury that would not die — declaring war on MeadowClan, she ordered an execution of the prisoners then and there. Pigeonfrost killed Lionblaze, but before they could kill Daybird, Blizzardtalon stepped in, advocating they keep one cat alive for information.
At a gathering comprised of high ranks and senior warriors only, Snowstar sought the audience of CaveClan and StreamClan, asking for help in a grand task: running MeadowClan out of the Vale to protect the greater good. Dewstar sided with Snowstar, having had a chance to see a glimpse of the carnage after the camp raid, but Poppystar opted to keep his Clan out of the conflict, not agreeing to help Oak and Cave, but not offering allegiance to Meadow either. Some sunrises after this gathering, dawn only just broke the horizon when OakClan and CaveClan flooded the MeadowClan camp, raising Hell and damn determined to complete their mission.
Snowstar confronted Sunstar in the heart of MeadowClan camp, the two engaging in vicious combat. The OakClan leader eventually was able to get the upper hand and is able to tear out Sunstar's throat to take one of his lives — except, Sunstar doesn't wake up. Snowstar waits for the tom to rise but when he doesn't, it becomes apparent to the leader that Sunstar is dead for good. While torn between wondering if her wound was more fatal than intended, or if he never had the lives to begin with, she declares that MeadowClan either leaves the battlefield or faces the leaders fate. In the chaos, no one saw that Sunstar only died once, but Snowstar used this to her advantage. The final call was made — any MeadowClan cats who refused to leave would meet Sunstar's fate.
What few survivors remained scattered, and the camp vacated. A young MeadowClan warrior named Hibiscusstride began to shout at the battle patrols, which prompted the response of two OakClan cats - Pigeonfrost, a senior warrior, and Eclipsesight. Pigeonfrost lunged to kill Hibiscusstride, but Eclipsesight intervened, begging that he do it instead. The show of this overwhelming emotion in front of an enemy force was enough, along with a few other mistakes that Eclipsesight had made, to prompt Snowstar to demote him from deputy there in the heart of the camp. Pigeonfrost was permitted to kill Hibiscusstride, and following this, the combined OakCave forces left.
Simultaneously, across the land, several cats from OakClan and CaveClan both were set up in a relay race to the bitter end. Cats from each Clan were positioned in various points leading from OakClan camp, through the territory, and into the Voidlands, far, far away from the forest. This was an effort to lead the dogs away, which worked - Rosemask and Morningstep worked together to lead the charge, and one by one, the groups began to pass off the dogs until it came to the final pair; Ghostfire, a CaveClan tracker, and Serpentfrost, one of Snowstar's formerly infamous spawn. The two, with deathberries slathered in their fur and stomachs, were the final cats to lead the dogs away. The pair sacrificed themselves to see this through - eventually, the dogs caught up, tearing them apart as they had so many others before. But because of the yew they had ingested and were covered in, they were able to successfully poison and ultimately, kill the dogs, ridding of that problem for good.
In the moons that followed so much chaos, OakClan expanded their territory, claiming Moonflower Meadow, along with what had once been the Training Hollow (then renamed to Mossy Hollow). Dewstar on the other hand refused to take any land for CaveClan, and so it was decided that the rest of the territory would be left to Voidlands. Patrols were sent daily by Snowstar to the new OakClan territory and beyond, ensuring that no MeadowClan cats have come to attempt to rebuild their lost Clans. Day by day, the numbers of stragglers dwindled, from common sightings to few, and then eventually, none.
MeadowClan was no more.
There were inklings of Newleaf in the end of Greenleaf.
Even before MeadowClan's forced departure, there was a notable drop in temperature and frost could be seen in the early mornings, crusting on the trees and stiffening the grass. However, it was only after the destruction of the flowery Clan that a premature Leafbare rolled in, in full swing. Snow and hail, frostbite and blizzards; one would think it was the middle of winter before they would think it was early Leaf-fall like it was.
The three Clans find themselves facing harsh conditions, such as a lack of herbs, little to no prey, and freezing bodies of water. Some cats started to wonder what could have caused it— just a strange, one-off occurrence? Or was it something greater, like divine punishment? An incurred wrath of the Stars, due to their sin against MeadowClan? Uncertain of the reason but demainding answers, the leaders sent their medicine cats to Starlight Cavern to meet with StarClan.
There, the medicine cats discovered at the Cavern was encrusted with ice, and that a deep cold had set in the Cavern pit. The Clan healers did their best to ignore the foreboding sign and attempted to reach StarClan - however, touching their nose to the Moonstone lured everyone to sleep and brought none to StarClan...
Or so it was thought.
Dawnpaw, OakClan medicine cat apprentice, awoke in a blizzarding snowscape in the company of a cat she had never met before - a cat who introduced herself as the legendary Firehawk. Firehawk explained that a terrible snowstorm had recently rolled into StarClan, obscuring their view of the living much to their distress. However, Dawnpaw was special - Dawnpaw was the only cat capable of communing with StarClan, and Firehawk had a special message for her to pass on to her fellow medicine cats: the stars were falling, and the living could no longer trust their leaders.
Before Dawnpaw could ask Firehawk to explain, a car emerged from the storm, emitting a bitter cold so deep, it froze the breath in Dawnpaw's lungs. The darkness began to deepen, and as Dawnpaw was pulled away from the snow-battered StarClan, the cat left her with chilling, foreboding words of departure.

Best not to tell their leaders.
That was what the medicine cats had decided the night Dawnpaw awoke and shared the message given to her by Firehawk. They have all kept their word thus far, deciding it was safer to omit information than it was to possibly cause mass hysteria.
