Taking the place of ordinary activity checks, events will be used as ways to encourage members to more fully explore their characters, as well as keep their character numbers at a manageable number.
The Vale doesn't hold monthly activity checks. Instead of thread requirements or replying to a post, Events will be hosted by the mod team every other month to check in.
These events will involve a prompt given to the server by the mod team. Members will be asked to insert their characters into the prompt by way of writing, drawing, animation, or whatever form of media you choose to do - though, a mod must approve of different alternatives than the ones listed.
Below are a list of guidelines each member will be expected to follow when it comes to events:
Each person will submit their character list in a dedicated channel. After this, a mod will create a thread for you, in which you will post all of your submissions. Be sure to tag the mods so we know when you are uploading.
Multiple of your own characters can be inserted into one entry. For example, if you have three cats in one Clan, you can put them all into one entry and it would count. But every cat must have an equal part in the entry, and you must clearly label which of your characters are featured in the entry.
Your entry must be related to the prompt given by the mod team. Deviation or changes made to the prompt will nullify your entry and you will need to recreate it. Mods will be flexible in what you choose to do, but don't go overboard. For example, if the prompt is about the Vale experiencing a heat wave, you must stay within the bounds of your characters coping with the heat.
All entries must follow the ratings established in the group. We do not allow extreme gore or sexual themes. Some events may include violence and/or dark themes, but the mod team will nullify your entry if we feel it's too extreme. If you wouldn't show your entries to your own mother, it probably wouldn't be allowed. If, for any reason, you do not feel comfortable with the given prompt, a mod will issue you a different one.
These events will be considered canon to the Vale as a whole. They may not necessarily be a part of the over-arching story, but you will be allowed to reference events in roleplay. If a certain event is ever going to be non-canon, it will be stated in the event post.
You are allowed to include other people's characters in your prompt, but the entry must ultimately be about your character(s). Meaning, you cannot use your entry to verify somebody else's character.
The only circumstance in which one entry may cover multiple roleplayers is an art entry, in which all participating members contributed an equal amount to the final piece. Written works cannot be submitted a collaborative entry.
Any character who does not have an entry by the deadline (without an extension given by mods) will be turned into an NPC. They will remain an NPC for two IRL weeks before being activated again. If your character is turned into an NPC more than three times, they will be deleted. NOTE: This rule does not apply to voluntarily making your cat an NPC. This only applies to events.
Oneshots
Oneshots can be written in any way you want. In first-person, third-person, past, present, future, etc. It just has to follow the theme!
Guidelines for oneshot entries are:
The body text (so excluding title, aesthetic quotes, etc) must be between 200 and 1000 words. You may only go 15 words over the limit before the entry is invalid.
Oneshots can be posted on other platforms, but may not be posted outright in threads to keep your submissions orderly.
Do not copy, paste, and edit entries for each submission. Character must be in a unique oneshot.
Art
The guidelines for art-based entries are probably the loosest and most simple, so long as they relate to the events theme. Guidelines for art entries are:
The piece must depict your character dealing with the given prompt in some way. The use of symbolism is ideally overt and blatant, so that the theme is easy to identify in your work.
Because images are easier to sift through than text, you have the option of posting your submissions directly to your channel, or on another platform.
AMV/ANIMATIC/PMV
While the mods don't anticipate many animation entries, they are permitted if you are feeling ambitious.
Guidelines are animations are:
Be mindful of your deadline. Extensions can be given, but the mods would prefer to only give it to those who need it. Ideally, you will not need to request an extension every single event.
There are no length limits for animations - if you can finish it before the deadline, you can submit it.
Other
If you have ideas for another type of entry you'd like to do, you must ask a mod beforehand. You'll likely be granted permission for most things, so long as they relate to the event and showcases effort.
Entries such as playlists or minimally-edited memes will not be allowed.
Typically, deadlines will be set 2-3 weeks after the announcement of an event, depending on how much time the mods think is needed. Extensions will be given to those who need them due to school, work, irl issues, etc. Mods will be pretty forgiving if we feel you deserve a break - roleplay is meant to be fun, after all. We don't want our members stressing over a deadline for no good reason.
As stated above, missing an event will result in your character being turned in an NPC for two weeks. During that time, you will not be allowed to write them. After the two weeks, they will be reinstated and you can write them again. Posting an entry will not allow you to write that character - you missed the deadline and must deal with the consequences.
If your character is turned into an NPC three times, they will be completely deleted from their Clan, and/or killed in roleplay. These events are to ensure all characters are being used to some extent, and are not being posted with the intention of taking up space. It clutters up the allegiances, hinders mentor-assignments, and so on.
If your character has been deleted and you would like to try and appeal, you can make your case to the mod team. Though, after three NPC cycles, we may not be inclined, so take that with a grain of salt.
And to repeat, voluntarily turning your character into an NPC does not count outside of the typical NPC rules. If your character is deleted "without warning", it's because of missed events.
