A Clan is guided by the principles and beliefs of the cats who came before. The identity of a Clan is carved by those who uphold its values.
Even from the beginning, CaveClan had trouble truly getting their bearings. The mountains can often be an uncaring, inhospitable place in comparison to the cushy lowlands of the Vale. The weather, predators, rockslides, and of course, the Reapers - all trying to uproot CaveClan from their ancestral home.
But the mountain cats have always promised themselves one thing - they will survive by any means necessary. Their greatest strength is identifying a problem and working to surpass it. CaveClan wouldn't have survived for this long if they didn't learn to change with the mountains.
With perhaps the most unique territory in the Vale, it's no surprise that the mountain cats would seize every opportunity to take advantage of it. Fewer prey, fewer herbs, and more chances to die, CaveClan have devised their own ways of navigating their terrain in a way the lowlanders can never do. The scouts, for example, are responsible for this very task.
Their creativity is something that keeps them alive, and is a very valuable trait for any CaveClanner who wants to help bring their Clan back to their former glory.
Since the resurgence of CaveClan, many outsiders have joined to bulk up their ranks. For this reason, the mountain cats are notorious for their looser belief in StarClan. Many of them still follow their ancestors - be it original CaveClan cats, other Clan cats who moved into the mountains, or outsiders who converted.
But StarClan isn't very involved in day-to-day life of the mountain cats. Even the return of the stars hasn't been quite enough to fully convince every cat.
Though not quite as loose as their faith, CaveClan doesn't strictly follow traditions as the lowlanders do. The biggest example of this are their slightly different ranks and hierarchy - while still Clan-like, they definitely stray from the groundwork.
This doesn't make them rogues by any means. The mountain cats retain a strong sense of honor and loyalty to their Clan. But much like their way of life, things will change when they need to be changed.
