Unlike other pantheons, Xenara’s is more pliable to change. The pantheon can grow based on the notion that if you are worthy and good enough, you can rise to reach divinity.
The gods meddle in the daily affairs of mortals and they roam freely, hidden from mortals, with each of the gods having some sort of haven. It is currently not known where they are exactly but the mortals do know they’re present. It is also known that, the gods do not dabble in the problems of mortals whether it be small or catastrophic as long as there is balance. With the balance of all things in mind, gods are afraid of incurring the wrath of other fellow gods. To remedy this, gods have their own kind of following, a religion, an order, a champion, a chosen or anything of the like. The gods use their mortals for their means, hidden from the eyes of the other divines. The gods only intervene if the balance in the plane is disrupted.
The gods’ powers come from a combination of their own prowess, a Titan corpse and the mortals’ belief on the god. With this in mind, gods differ also in power. Some, who have a large following and having bested one of the mightiest of Titans, are guaranteed to be in the higher echelons of the supreme beings. There are also gods who have the fewest of believers but have the prowess and strength rivaling that of a Titan, making their power fearsome and on the level of those well liked gods.
Gods love to mingle with mortals sometimes. Some hunt. Some guide. Some kill. Some protect. Some watch. Some play. While some, avoid mortals all in all.
It is believed that to become a God, a mortal has to be special in their own way. It could either be being born with a talent or through persistent training to be the best. But to truly achieve being a god, a mortal has to surpass being the greatest and kill a Titan themselves. The aspiring god should best the Titan of choice and somehow harvest and cultivate the essence of the said Titan. It is said that each Titan has a domain of power. When a god-to-be kills a Titan, its domain of power can be gained by the mortal. It can either be the opposite or the same, depending on the now-ascended god. With this knowledge, many mortals aspire to be gods themselves but only a handful have become divine beings.
There are two groups of major deities according to the Sentry: the Old Gods and the Known Gods.
The Old Gods are the deities that have been present since time immemorial. They fought the Titans when there were still no mortals. They watched the birth of mortals and their spread throughout the land. The Old Gods make sure that they are not forgotten as they serve as the theological foundation of Xenara. This was the pantheon that was intended for the utopia of the Sentry.
On the other hand, the Known Gods, are the gods that for any reason, got through and into the theological space of Xenara. The Sentry has observed the integration of each of their history to Xenara's. The earliest texts that the Sentry could find regarding the Known Gods were from approximately year 100. From evil to good deities, these gods have found their domain without other ruler (albeit for some exceptions). Some of the lesser deities that have ascended to major godhood are grouped with the Known Gods.
Lastly, Lesser Deities are those with deific capabilities that have not yet reached a proper religious following accross the plane. These lesser deities can ascend to major godhood provided they have the belief of many with them. These lesser deities often mingle with mortals (whether it be harmful or not) to extend their reach and following. Lesser deities aspire to be worshipped on a planar level.
The most recent of gods is Khronoos, Father Time. He was a chronomancer of legend who usurped the power of the Temporal Titan.
Another recent god is the one known as Mask, who was once an urchin and a lowlife thief on Shehport. Legend tells he bested Nagakabouros on a game of some sort, creating a dynamic leaving the Serpent Titan half alive, somewhat tamed and somehow coexisting with its counterpart of a god.
