Michael Poindexter received his Bachelor of Fine Art in printmaking and painting at the Memphis College of Art and his Master of Fine Art in printmaking and painting at Yale University School of Art. Returning to Nashville after 15 years in New York City, the beauty and vastness of the landscape inspired his vision and washed away the cold confinement of the city. Working professionally as an architectural project manager, interior designer, artist, and college professor have provided a unique mixture of experiences that influence his work as a fine art painter. Michael is a member of the Chestnut Group Plein Air Painters, The Portrait Society of America, American Impressionist Society and the Nashville Figure Drawing Group. His work is held by private and public collections in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, and Nashville.

About the Art:
My work is grounded in a pursuit of realism that remains responsive to the life and energy of what I see. I am interested not simply in reproducing appearances, but in allowing observation and instinct to guide the process of painting. For me, the act of seeing is as important as the finished image, and I aim to create paintings that feel alive in their execution and immediate in their conception.
I continue to explore these ideas through painting and drawing, particularly through the study of the human figure and the landscape.
