This work, titled My Name Is.., is about the struggle to feel authentic. Being a closeted kid from a rural town in the 1990's meant carefully examining every step that I took, every word that I spoke, and every gesture that I made. It meant constant overthinking of every action, for fear that the people around me might figure me out. In the piece, My Name Is.., the figure is divided into two, depicting the desire to fit in while revealing that, despite best efforts to blend in, he cannot help but stand out, highlighting the battle of being authentic.
