PERSONAL USE
COMPUTERS, TABLETS, PHONES + PDAS
CATEGORY: COMMON
Starting in the 2020s, general technology used by the public began to see rapid development; computers, tablets, and other devices began to have the ability to use node computing, which the college would integrate into their infrastructure as soon as they possibly could. PDAs, in specific, would begin to become more common around the college in the few following years, being given in smaller quantities to students and staff.
Seeing as many of the Alumni members are direct descendants of the original student body, the Alumni own some old personal phones and tablets, putting the college in possession of a moderate amount of these items by the time the flash came. Many of them still see use in the present day.
Hologram Projectors
CATEGORY: COMMON
Hologram technology was the next stage of photographic techniques that recorded light scattered from an object, and projecting it as a three-dimensional [3D] object. Holograms were used for business organizations, imagery, Small hologram projectors such as small tablets or miniature pads which project small scaled images, and are normally found within the ranks of the Alumni which are seen used for teachings, or many other activities that involve image display.
Integrated Hologram Projectors
CATEGORY: RARE (MR/Compendium Project)
Integrated hologram projectors are categorized hologram projectors that are enhanced into projecting medium or large scaled images, or even moveable holograms. Integrated hologram projectors can also be seen embedded in droids or drones as well. Due to the rarity of these integrated hologram projectors or medium/large projectors in the wasteland, not many Alumni members are seen with these holograms.
SRDs
CATEGORY: COMMON
Short range radios or ‘SRDs’ are handheld communication devices used by Alumni security forces as a way to communicate to each other during excursions out in the wasteland, market/aid stations, to sanctum events or situations. Commonly the Alumni make their own radios just by makeshift items or 3D printing with engineering resulting in SRDs commonly having a frequency range to 6-8 miles without obstruction. Other radios are mostly gained by scavenging or trading with others.
LRDs
CATEGORY: LIMITED
ROLES: Arquitens, SR+
Long range radios or ‘LRDs’ are high performance radios used by Arquitens to communicate between separated Alumni units and to the Alumni Sanctum. Most LRDs are military comparable radios made by Valedictorians themselves or scavenged radios, with most Alumni LRD sets being fixed powered. LRDs are the most expensive communication devices the Alumni hold within their inventory. Commonly Alumni LRDs can vary transmission range from approximately 20-30 miles without obstruction.
HAZMAT Suits
CATEGORY: LIMITED [SR/Compendium]
HAZMAT Suits are commonly used for protection against hazardous materials or substances, they are also used for protection against frequent RAD Storms that occur within the Sunrise Isles. Class A & B HAZMAT Suits like the “Prostasia Hazmat Suit” are mostly by Alumnites to survive RAD Storms for hours on end, alongside protecting them from other various chemical accidents or attacks. Class C & D HAZMAT Suits are most common for Valedictorians when working with chemicals, biological materials, or conducting hardcore surgical operations on other individuals, but lack protection from RAD Storms due to their cheap material. Due to the inventory that the Alumni have with HAZMAT Suits, they are only given out when needed in situations
Gas-Masks & Respirators
CATEGORY: COMMON
During the uprising of WW3 and the fear of nuclear war, fallout shelters stocked up on gas masks and respirators for people to have protection against the radiation that would inevitably cloud the wasteland. Due to the Alumni having a massive stockpile of gas masks and respirators within the Compendium Bunker, and alongside other Alumnites making their own, It’s very common for a member to be equipped with a gas mask or respirator and should be with them at all times just in case something happens.
DISPLAYS
Recreational ARD
CATEGORY: COMMON
Recreational Augmented Reality Display Category: Common Accessible in a surplus to the Alumni from times even before the Flash and in times of the E.I.T., the recreational ARD is a tool favored by many Valedictorians and even some Salutatorians when off-duty. Simple eye pieces and full on AR goggles, these items allow the user to watch movies, see messages and some even play games, all the while not being confined to only seeing that and none of the real world.
Engineering ARD
CATEGORY: COMMON
Engineering Augmented Reality Display Category: Limited (Valedictorian) Made for Pre-Flash engineers and construction workers, the engineering ARD is a Valedictorian's best friend when working on a Compendium project or salvaging technology. Made primarily in the eyepiece form, this AR eyepiece allows the user to view schematics, access a virtual ruler and other applications that would aid one in the engineering field. Generally speaking seen in the hands of Magisters and Savants.
Medical ARD
CATEGORY: COMMON
Medical Augmented Reality Display) Category: Limited (Valedictorian Proctor/Salutatorian Medicorum) Like their field-specific siblings, the medical ARD is a tool made for medical personnel of the old world, now used by wasteland doctors and Alumnites in the Sanctum med-bay. The medical ARD allows users to view notes on medicine doses, run scans and many other features. While primarily seen used by Proctors, it's not a rare sight to see a Medicorum using it either.
Old Night-Vision Goggles
CATEGORY: LIMITED (Compendium Item)
After the military occupation beneath the college had settled in, soldiers had brought with them only a small amount of these military devices due to them becoming phased out in favor of the standard HUD. After the flash took place, these devices had been used for decades without stoppage which rendered them rundown and quite old. Each pair of goggles has an effective range of 150 meters.
HUDs
CATEGORY: RARE
HUDs were vital assets utilized by the United States military during their war with China. It comes with a camera with recording abilities, other features such as integrated night vision, a built in rangefinder, unit identification tagging, and satellite mapping with a featured compass. But after the Flash plunged the world in nuclear hellfire, HUDs became a scarce rarity. In the present, the Alumni have a few in their storage having been obtained from their skirmishes with the USRF dating back to the border conflict period in the 2050s.
PROSTHETICS
Basic Prosthetics
CATEGORY: COMMON
Created by the Alumni from Pre-Flash and some Post-Flash blueprints, these prosthetics are the most readily available models in the Alumni, having been manufactured in the Sanctum itself. The prosthetics themselves have prominent synthwood or plastic chassis, a more notable feature of the prosthetic line itself are its many problems: Delayed movement, being weaker than an organic limb, weaker in terms of durability, lack of synthetic nerves, etcetera. Despite these many flaws, they're one of the most popular designs that many Aspirants and some Apprentices use.
Improved Prosthetics
CATEGORY: LIMITED (Compendium Project)
Similarly to their more readily available brother, the improved prosthetics are built based on Pre-Flash schematics and blueprints, but this time they have been made with more dedication put into the manufacturing process and much better materials being used.
Having been made from high-grade plastics and even in some situations metals, these prosthetics rival human limbs in terms of reaction time between impulses from the brain, strength and durability, also coming with synthetic nerves to allow the user to feel touch in them and a neural link to the brain for almost instant reactions between impulses from the brain and the movement itself. Additionally, should the user request it, they can come with synthetic skin.
Augmented Prosthetics
CATEGORY: RARE (Compendium Project)
The highest grade of prosthesis available in the Alumni, these prosthetics are made from curated materials such as steel mesh and carbon fiber, and made with utmost care for the use of the Mentors and up. These prosthetic arms and legs are almost always custom-made. The augmented prosthetics are something only a few outside of the rank of Mentor can dream of, with the augmentations supplied including the likes of mild strength boost, durability surpassing organic limbs and even concealed melee weapons in some cases. This desire for augmented prosthesis has resulted in many lower ranking members creating replicas on their own, though they will never come as close.
Prosthetic Organs
CATEGORY: RESTRICTED
In the 2030s-2040s, prosthetic organs were a trending topic in the medical field & tech companies, prosthetic organs ranging from lungs, hearts, kidneys, stomachs, etcetera. Prosthetic organs were designed to replace organs within the human body in order to restore proper bodily function and or to benefit a user's health. Due to the nuclear holocaust and the conditions of the nuclear wasteland, A majority of the manufacturing process and data pertaining to organ prosthesis has been lost to time, which has resulted in them, along with any other technology of its caliber, being very rarely seen across Post-Flash America.
During the times of E.I.T, prosthetic organs were common projects for research on medical science for students, and some of those aged projects were archived within the Compendium Bunker. Due to the rarity of these advanced prosthetics, they're generally seen used by highly important members of the Alumni, such as Domini or Executive Directors, but some or lower ranking members have been exceptions to the norm.
MACHINERY
DROIDS
CATEGORY: LIMITED
ROLES: Automata
The Alumni have amassed a variety of droids over the years, which are widely used for various tasks throughout the Sanctum. Both scavenged and produced droids see use by the Alumni, as well as some droids retained from the Pre-Flash Erie Institute of Technology. They serve various purposes, such as menial labor, maintenance, and security. Some droids within the Alumni are powerful enough to harbor sentience, while others do not have the processing power to possess it or are entirely barred from developing it.
NOTE: To Roleplay a droid within the Alumni you must fill out an Alumni Droid Character Sheet and have it approved by an Alumni MR+
MILITARY DROIDS
CATEGORY: RARE
ROLES: Automata (Requires approval)
Ever since the government made contact with the institute to work on confidential projects in the 2060s, military personnel, including a small number of military droids, were dispatched to the university with the simple goal of patrolling the bunker’s interior. Decades later after the nuclear holocaust, these droids have outlived their former military operators and have been reprogrammed by the Alumni to serve as lethal, loyal sentries and protectors of the upper echelon of the faction.
Conversely, they’re more powerful and apt than their security counterparts. Over time, they’ve been properly maintained and modified. Their entire body is fully armored with laser-resistant plates. They’re capable of using the near limitless range of weaponry the Alumni has to offer. They additionally sport an advanced AI chip of varying calibers, enabling each droid the ability to continuously absorb knowledge and adapt to their surroundings.
NOTE: To Roleplay a military droid within the Alumni, You either must be MR+ or submit a Alumni Droid Character Sheet to a SMR+ for approval.
INDUSTRIAL 3D PRINTERS
CATEGORY: LIMITED (Compendium)
3D printing technology had advanced for decades before the flash. These new machines were able to produce a wide variety of different materials, more than just simple plastics compared to their predecessors. The inclusion of newly accepted materials typically included precious metals and alloys. 3D Printing technology is quite used by the Alumni to manufacture tools, weapons, parts, etc. Most 3D Printers are stored in the Compendium or in the Compendium Bunker, most members such as Valedictorians are seen using these 3D printers to help them with their projects also.
AUTO-DOCS
CATEGORY: RESTRICTED
Featured within most heavily populated zones; the auto-doc serves as a technological replacement for those in need of a surgeon. As a machine about the size of a pre-war double refrigerator, it is to be inserted to hover above the middle of the patient’s bed. A stretcher can then be slid right in between. It has metallic hands with the same precision and sharpness of a scalpel. If the trauma room was too filled or the medical staff was outnumbered; the quick work of this device and the supervision of a physician saves time and lives. Auto-docs are also a usage of intense surgeries, installing improved or organ prosthetics a majority of the time. The usage of an Auto-Doc is only restricted to the higher-ranks of the Alumni due to how limited the machines are, but other Alumnites are seen being treated by them if they gain approval.
ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
NON SENTIENCE
CATEGORY: COMMON
ROLES: Automata
The most rudimentary of machines are often given no special personality or sentience and are left with very basic vocal interaction, pre-coded to simply follow whatever task is presented to them. This is often seen in lower workforce droids such as industrial or security droids. It is most commonly seen in models such as the SD-1, which are cheap and do not possess powerful memory components. Sentience development is largely unnecessary for basic workforce machines, as such complexities require expansive storage space.
SEMI SENTIENCE
CATEGORY: LIMITED
ROLES: Automata
Some droid models are seen sporting what is commonly referred to as pseudo-sentience, or semi sentience, most commonly seen in workplace droids that are commonly present in a social setting. Such social scenarios allow a machine to construct a expansive data-set of knowledge from its peers, as well as allowing their mechanisms to familiarize themselves with near billions of commands constantly bombarding their systems at any given moment. Semi-sentient machines can perceive human emotion and thought, and can learn to grasp certain concepts of the human condition. However they themselves cannot express such emotion and personality. They are not far from their non-sentient counterparts, as they can still revert to their default protocol as ordered by a superior at any moment, however they possess some amount of self-agency, typically seeking to complete tasks they were designed for without being explicitly ordered to. On rare occasion, semi-sentient machines can grasp onto specific interests and will regularly return to partaking in activities related to such, repeatedly. Many magisters believe this behavior to be a strategy for consistent data collection, and machines will continue to seek out these pseudo-hobbies unless their inclinations are discontinued.
FULL SENTIENCE
CATEGORY: RARE
ROLES: Automata (Requires approval)
Machines that are permitted to continue developing their sentience over the span of months or years soon take up individual personalities, desires, dreams, and preferences. With a colossal catalog of memory and data-sets pertaining to a variety of self-taught or prescribed knowledge, most of these machines expressions become nearly indistinguishable from a regular persons. This level of awareness is typically seen in more prized machines, mainly military automata, who carry the advanced specifications required to facilitate their simulated consciousness. When full sentience is recognized, the machine is awarded certain rights due to its status, and are typically treated much the same as any other Alumnite under the law.
ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
CATEGORY: RESTRICTED
ROLES: Automata (Requires approval)
Lake Erie Institute of Technology was more notable through their breakthrough in Artificial Intelligence during the 2020s. AI’s are very advanced computer programs which have capabilities that go beyond humans or sentient droids. Artificial Intelligence is still used by the Alumni today for data calculating, guidance, therapy, and alongside various other applications that usually remain unspoken by most Alumnites. Most of Sanctum's automated virtual network is regulated by specifically engineered AIs, which are known as the Centralis.
Most Alumni AI have 100% sentience, and are able to have a mind on their own while sticking to their programming as well. Due to the dangers of AI, it is mostly kept restricted from the outside world, and only higher ups within the ranks of the Alumni are seen operating or creating Artificial Intelligent beings.
DRONES
SCOUT DRONES
CATEGORY: LIMITED/Compendium
ROLES: Quaesitors, Arquitens , Arvum.
Originally commercial drones, they were often utilized by the college before the Flash. The drones were used for various tasks such as recording school sporting events or other tasks at altitudes unreachable by humans. But after the flash occurred, most of the drones were lost for a few decades until the Alumni’s resurface. The Alumni would regain possession of their commercial drones and overhauled their conditions.
They were later repurposed for reconnaissance and scouting operations when the first expedition team set out to explore the new world. In the present time, scout drones are still used for the same purposes. Specific roles within the Alumni generally use them when they’re out in the field; But they’re also used for surveillance around the sanctuary’s premises - being on the lookout for any threats or interlopers.
WORKFORCE DRONES
CATEGORY: LIMITED
ROLES: Any Valedictorian Roles
Much like industrial droids, these drones were purchased by the college in abundance to take leverage of the device’s abilities and use them for construction developments in the college’s premises. They were also integrated into the Robotics and computing programs for students to study and tinker with.
When the flash occurred, most of these drones were taken inside the underground bunker to maintain the organization of supplies. In the present, these drones are seen working alongside industrial droids in logical tasks.
"RENATUS" JURY-RIGGED INDUSTRIAL EXOSUIT
CATEGORY: LIMITED(SR/Compendium Item)
Before the Flash, the college had invested a decent chunk of funding into the purchasing of these suits for various curricular programs. With the recent nuclear annihilation and high maintenance requirements, many exoskeleton suits have been left run down and nearing patchwork quality Although on occasion, they have been refurbished with spare parts from salvaged or damaged exoskeletons or other machinery, and see sporadic use by Mentors and Domini in the field.
The exoskeleton suit itself has been repaired to a usable state. However, it is noticeably worse in quality and differing in appearance with exoskeleton suits used by Mentors, and it additionally suffers from drawbacks such as halved strength output, decreased battery life and joint locking. In the event of a suit being pushed too hard, joints will overload themselves causing limbs to be locked in place, rendering the user immobile. Despite such drawbacks, the exoskeleton suit still remains a handy tool on the field.
"ADEODATUS" XMS-I ADVANCED EXOSUIT
CATEGORY: RESTRICTED
As a part of the United States government's contract, the XMS-I Advanced Exoskeleton Suit was among the few variants of advanced exoskeleton suits that were shipped to the college for rigorous testing and design improvements.
Unfortunately however, history had other unprecedented plans for the exoskeleton suits. These "ancient technological relics" now belong to the Alumni, capable of evolving an array of an operator's abilities, including but not limited to substantial increase in the operators' strength, agility, and dexterity. Users of the advanced exoskeleton suit are often of near super-soldier status in terms of power. Along with the multitude of other benefits supplied by an advanced exoskeleton suit, it has also been designed as a full skeletal system, with each suit giving the operator the unwanted but quite helpful ability to deflect small arms and shrapnel.
