For the Repair, Customize, Replace project, I am working with Ms. Kennedy to create Dollhouse furniture for Greenwich Academy's Ridgeview campus. The pre-existing dollhouse furniture was made out of recycled materials and cardboard, these materials are not very durable and have started to wear down. I plan on going to the Ridgeview Campus on Tuesday and speaking to the girls and taking any suggestions or specific furniture that the want. For this project I plan on 3D printing most of the furniture and maybe some small laser cut pieces.
I went down to Ridgeview and explained my project to the girls and asked them for any suggestions they had for the new furniture coming to their dollhouse.
I used TinkerCad to create all of the furniture and basically groups shapes to create couches, bed, tables, chairs, etc.
3D printing the dollhouse furniture was the hardest part of the process because the printing process took a very long time but also the component that sometime my prints would fail or I wouldn't have the right support, so I found my self having to go back and slice files again, slow down the printer speed, and carefully watch the print to make sure it stuck to the bed. Some of the failed prints I was able to salvage and use as other furniture , this was important to me because I didn't want to waste materials. For the toilet file that failed I used the circular base and laser cut a piece of clear acrylic to make a modern table, and the for the sink that failed I used it as a counter.
For the finishing touches for the furniture I plan to sew and make cushions and mattresses for the furniture using an array of calico fabrics.
