I think EnD I and II could create a coordinated, virtual chain reaction by everyone independently creating an aspect or part of the chain reaction and compile all of these parts in a series of videos. We could all brainstorm and organize who would do what parts and then everyone could build their said part and record it while it’s going. After recording the parts we could compile them in order (whatever order we discuss as a group) and then create a movie in iMovie or any program of choice.
Today we had a whole group zoom meeting to discuss our ideas for our Rube Goldberg Chain reaction. We decided to not have an overall theme but instead have an ending / purpose of the chain reaction to be dedicated to doctors and medical care workers protecting and caring for people with corona virus. We as group plan on using a google doc and culminating all of our ideas and supplies that we have available in our homes, and then organizing the order each member will be in the video. We will use google docs and zoom to communicate with each other to ensure we are on task throughout the process of creating our chain reaction.
As the building process began for the Rube Golberg inspired chain reaction I knew that making every aspect of the chain reaction function wasn't going to be easy. I did not expect for the my chain reaction to fail over and over again, in fact it only ran successfully once and I unfortunately didn't get in on film. There are a lot of aspects that need to be accounted for like gravity, friction, and force. The idea in my mind is having trouble coming to life but this is a work in progress, there are definitely some kinks that need be worked and thought out before the reaction runs smoothly.
My idea is to have a ball knock down the cereal boxes, on top of the last cereal box is another ball that will get sen down the ramp. After getting sent down the ramp the ball should hit the lined up dominoes. After hitting the dominoes I am going to put another ball and have it roll into another part of my chain reaction.
For the moment I am only able to get the first part of my chain reaction to work, but it takes several takes to get the ball to hit the dominoes, so I am trying to figure out the perfect trajectory for the ball in order for it to roll off the ramp and hit the dominoes perfectly.
In our recent panelist review, my group and I received feedback on the continuity on how we shoot our video, and everyone having the same view/ angle. Also having some unison in all of our videos on how the ball rolls into the shot, having a mutual speed for all of the balls if possible. We also received feedback on the relevancy of our chain reaction, and in some way relating it to Corona virus. We plan on making the last clip of the video to be a thank you to all of the nurses and doctors working in hospitals/ all of the essential workers putting themselves at risk to protect us. Another idea for the ending that we received was having a burst of all of the balls used in previous shots all coming into one shot at the end. our next step as a group is to make any necessary changes and to put all of the videos together.
