2001・Big Bear, CA・Received the Burden of DCP
In August 2001, not long after I was saved, I was encouraged by brother Alex Chiang in the
Church in Franklin and flew to Southern California for the first time in my life. When I arrived at
the Engedi camp, I realized that Brother Andrew Yu had a burden for the "defense" of the
Lord's Recovery through literature service. After he shared the burden, brother Alex stood up
and consecrated himself to the Lord for the commitment. Brother Alex and I were spiritual
companions. Even though at that time, I didn't know what consecration means, I also followed
Brother Alex and stood up to consecrate myself to the Lord. Afterward, I forgot about this
consecration. A few years later, one brother mentioned it to me, and I realized that God never
forgets our consecration.
2003・Franklin, NJ・Strong Consecration to the Lord
From Aug. 11th, 2003, it was the first time that Brother Andrew led the North America Chinese-
speaking Summer perfecting in Franklin, New Jersey. There were about 230 saints, mainly
newly saved scholars from all over North America. I arrived at the meeting hall from my job in
New York on Monday afternoon, just in time for Brother Yu's first message. Brother Andrew's
messages were entitled "the Followers of the Vision of the Times". Andrew mentioned that in
every age, there is the vision of God in that age. A person who sees and follows that vision is
God's overcomer in that age. From that night on, we began to experience God as the strong
wind, a cloud, fire burning, and electrum burning, according to Ezekiel chapter 1. One by one,
the saints stood up to consecrate themselves to the Lord with tears. During the meeting, I
experienced the intimate presence of the Lord and the light shining from God's appearance. I
jumped onto the stage several times, repenting with tears, confessing, and consecrating. It was
the first time I saw the vision of the glorious God.
On Tuesday night, Brother Andrew mentioned that God's principle for people of every age is
the principle of the overcomers who are the "remnants." He used Moses' experience to speak
of the vision of the burning thornbush. I saw for the first time in God's light that my natural
being is actually like thorns, good for nothing but death and burial. For the first time, I realized
that this is what I am; like Job, "I loathe myself and repent in dust and ashes." (Job 42:6). We
experienced the purifying and burning of the Holy Spirit. That night, the air conditioner broke
down due to the hot weather as it was a scorching summer. The brothers had to set up a few
electrical fans blowing from outside the meeting room. The saints experienced both the
burning outside and the spiritual burning inside in God's presence.
From Wednesday (Aug. 13th) on, Brother Andrew began to release the burden of full-time
training. Led by the Holy Spirit, Brother Paul Wu started to call for consecration one by one.
While the Holy Spirit urged me to share a little of the burden with the saints, I did not feel the
need to sign up for full-time training because I was not yet clear. When I was struggling, brother
Gilbert Chang asked me, "What is your consecration number?" I could not tell whether it was
the brothers or the Holy Spirit, or maybe both; I felt the confirmation from the Lord and right
away declared my consecration. It was not until five years later, when I quit the job and joined
the FTT training.
Halfway through training, I felt the training was so enjoyable; I couldn't go back to work on
Friday. But I had used up all my vacation time. So I began to pray about it. About 4:30 p.m. on
Thursday, something happened: the largest-scale power outage ever happened in New York
City and throughout the Northeast. My manager called me and told me that I did not need to
go to work on Friday. This was the first time I experienced the Lord's words that to those who
love Him, God has prepared blessings which "eyes have not seen, ears have not heard, and
hearts have not thought." (1 Cor. 2:9).
As a result of that week's consecration to God, in September of that year, I received the burden
from the Lord and went to preach the gospel at Columbia University. The Lord poured out His
blessings on the campus with new ones baptized and perfected. In Fall of 2005, the Lord led
me, my wife, and our newborn daughter to move from the spacious and comfortable
apartment in New Jersey to the crowded, noisy, and expensive Manhattan. We rented an
apartment near the campus of Columbia University and opened our home to serve the campus.
Every week students came to our home for dinner. New ones were baptized in our bathtub.
One Thanksgiving night, more than 30 came to our tiny apartment for dinner, filling every inch
of the room. These were unforgettable moments in our life which are inspired by brother
Andrew.
2005・Hong Kong・Visiting Brother Andrew in His Sickness
In 2005, my wife and I, along with a group of saints, flew to Hong Kong to visit Brother Yu
recovering from cancer treatment. At that time, brother Andrew had nasopharyngeal cancer
and experienced radiation therapy. He was in a lot of pain, to such an extent that even drinking
soup was as painful as a knife cutting to him. His voice did not seem as strong as before, but we
could see from his fellowship that he was still concerned about the interests of the Lord. From
his sharing, we didn't hear any complaint but rather sensed the aroma of the olive oil crushed
as olive from his being, as a drink offering to be offered on the sacrifices and offerings of the
believers.
2008・New York・Literature Service
On Feb. 12th, 2008, I was still working on Wall Street. Brother Yu formed a team of brothers
and worked on a project to analyze the scriptural commentaries from Henry Alford, Marvin
Vincent, Kenneth Wuest, J. N. Darby, Bauer, and Witness Lee. The burden is to demonstrate
that Brother Nee and Brother Lee stood on the shoulder of these spiritual "ancestors." I picked
Darby and Bauer. It is not until later, when I read Brother Andrew's comments on our
translation, that I realized the poor quality and the countless mistakes of my translation.
Despite all these, brother Andrew encouraged us to continue our service without any reproof.
2008・Texas・ The Vision of the Testimony of Jesus
During the Chinese-speaking summer perfecting in 2008 in Texas, Brother Yu released a series
of messages entitled "the Testimony of Jesus". The Lord's calling came to me again. Whenever I
closed my eyes, I could see the vision of "the testimony of Jesus" portrayed lively by brother
Andrew. The witnesses from Abel to Moses, from the Old Testament to the New, from Darby,
to Watchman Nee and Witness Lee, formed a line of beacon lights on the runway. With such a
controlling vision, after much struggle and prayer, I turned in my resignation from the
investment bank and joined the Middle-aged training.
2009・Pasadena・Began Full-time Service
In 2009, I moved from the East Coast to Southern California to begin full-time service. Through
fellowship with brother Andrew, as part of my service, I started my study at Fuller Theological
Seminary in September 2010. During my research, I learned that brother Andrew had spent
many efforts on the dialogue with Christian leaders for the spreading of the truth of the Lord's
Recovery. Since 2010, brother Andrew encouraged me to write papers for the Chinese version
of the journal "Affirmation and Critique."
2016・Southeast Asia・Propagation of the Truth and Practice the New Way
After the winter training in December 2015, I heard the burden of "the Five Initiatives" during
the fellowship of Brother Yu and the Singaporean brothers. A few of us received the burden and
arrived there in January 2016. At that time, we often fellowshipped with Brother Yu almost
every week, especially when we encountered difficulties and problems in our practice of the
God-ordained way. Brother Andrew often wrote us emails with what he enjoyed from CWWN
and CWWL. Those words indeed met the needs of the time. The God-ordained way practice
was full of the Lord's blessings. Many young working saints were revived and began to serve in
the church life vitally. In February 2017, upon fellowship with Brother Yu, I returned to
Southern California to continue my service.
2017 · Southern California · Participation in CWWL Service
In December 2017, through Brother Yu's fellowship, we began to participate in the service of
CWWL. I gathered a team of more than 60 brothers and sisters, mainly responsible for
transcribing Brother Lee's audios.
During one visit to brother Lee's residence, Brother Yu showed us the five Bibles that belonged
to brother Lee for his personal use. These bibles were full of brother Lee's personal notes, some
of which were hard to discern. However, Brother Yu carefully studied every word and never
missed a single word. We observed Brother Yu's character of self-discipline, steadfastness, and
his appreciation of brother Lee's ministry. Brother Yu coordinated multiple units and engaged in
the management of collecting, transcribing, translating, proofreading, editing, printing,
publishing, etc. Had it not been for his outstanding skills, such a monumental work would not
have been completed. Brother Andrew is indeed a unique gift from the Lord to His Recovery to
propagate the New Testament ministry.
January 2019 · Southern California · Translation of Schaff's "A History of the Christian
Church"
In January 2019, Brother Yu was burdened with translating Philip Schaff's "History of the
Christian Church," an eight-volume, colossal work of 7,120-pages. It is widely recognized as the
most outstanding work on the history of the church. But because of its vast amount of work, no
one in the Chinese theological community had dared to translate it into Chinese. Brother Yu
was very burdened with this; after fellowship, some brothers took up the burden. I was
responsible for three out of its eight volumes. We formed a team of more than 20 brothers and
sisters. Brother Yu was very weak at that time, but we still could not catch up with his progress.
The original plan was to finish the book's translation within a year, but Brother Yu only finished
proofreading the fifth volume and was then taken by the Lord. Knowing that our ability is
limited, we are willing to do our best to fulfill Brother Yu's burden on this project.
December 2019 ·Anaheim, CA · Further Burden on DCP
On Dec. 21st, 2019, Brother Yu and Abraham Ho gathered a group of brothers from Hong Kong,
Taiwan, and the United States in his house, for a review of the defense and confirmation for the
Lord's Recovery. He shared that someone needs to take up the burden of learning advanced
theology to propagate the truth of the Lord's Recovery. After much struggle, I prayed for the
Lord's confirmation and called Andrew for fellowship. He encouraged me to carry out this
burden while continuing the church services without any compromise.
February to December 2020 · Anaheim · Brother Yu Released More than 20 Messages
At the beginning of 2020, when the global epidemic was spreading, many church meetings
stopped, and saints were affected. In his sickness, Brother Yu encouraged the saints to be
watchful and pray and seize the opportunity to spread the kingdom of the Lord according to the
new model of church life. From February to his departure to be with the Lord, brother Andrew
released more than 20 messages, which encouraged the saints all over the world to continue to
practice the vital groups to be living and active in the pandemic while utilizing the opportunities
to preach the gospel to people in need.
On Nov. 20th, Brother Yu, in his fellowship with the saints working in the high-tech and
professional field, pointed out that the new way initiated by Br. Lee is scientific in three
aspects: 1) innovative; 2) reproducible; 3) repeatable. For such a practice, there is a great need
to be trained.
Dec. 11th, 2020 · Last Fellowship with Brother Andrew
On Dec. 11th, two days before he was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU), Brother
Andrew gave me some guidance on my future service and suggestions on my research topic. To
me, these instructions and directions are from the Lord to me. I can only pray to the Lord for
His mercy to accomplish it for His own glory.
Brother Andrew has been taken away by the Lord, but his words, his pattern, and his burdens
are still with us. Brother Yu is a pattern for me and many of us. He followed the ministry of the
age closely, being thoroughly constituted and tirelessly propagating the New Testament
ministry. At the same time, he was a prudent servant of God in implementing the "blueprint" of
God's building according to Brothers Nee and Lee, promoting the God-ordained way, and
faithfully reminding and encouraging us to practice the vital groups.
As he prophesied in one of his poems, for this generation, he indeed became a drink offering
and poured out all his being for the Lord he loved: "All the earth is in solemnly testifying; for
this generation I present my whole being."
