Now, lets list the Components involved in this system:
(Remember that a Component is a part that on it's own has little functional value)
We are going to break them down into four separate sections: Control, Sensors, and other components
Processor(control):
As the functions of this shredder are not very complex there is only a single microcontroller controlling the shredder pictured below:
Processor- human interface components:
Inside of the micro controller there is a speaker that plays a chime to indicate a Jam, Over-Heating or a Full Bin
The center light works to indicate the status of the shredder
The Buttons on the front o the shredder act
Sensors: there are 7 sensors in total pertaining to the operation and safe function of this shredder:
6-page shredder paper presence switches (orange)
75 page feed ramp paper presence sensor (red)
Bin "full" switch sensor (green)
Bin engaged switch
Heat and Jam detection sensor located in mirocontroller housing (green)
Incorporated into the actuator there are two additional sensors, a current sensor and a temperature sensor.
The current sensor works to determine if there is a jam in the teeth of the of the shredder.
the temperature sensor determines if the actuator has reached an unsafe temperature.
Actuator:
There is really only the one actuator for the shredder and that is an electric drive motor that is able to turn the shredding teeth, the feed rollers as well as the 75 page feed ramp that is actuated upward toward the feed roller, feeding paper into the shredder by use of the gear train. All of these functions are activated at once when the actuator applies power to the gear train.
The motion of the actuator activates all portions of the gear train; both paper feed rollers; the shredding teeth and the raising of the feed ramp.
These functions take place regardless of the activation of the 6 page shredding function or the 75 page constant feed function., but do not occur in the reverse motion.
