Time to make a Haas coaxial indicator holder.
This project required me to create my own custom tooling in order to create the radius on the collar.
I found a piece of aluminum and got to work.
For the center hole through the part I needed to use the tail stock to spot, drill and ream the hole called for on the drawing.
This moment was a lesson in where to place the dial indicator.
the further from the center point, the more accurate the reading was going to be. I centered the part based on the reading i was getting off of the reamer that i had left in the center hole, but when I woud spin the part in the lathe i could see a definite wobble to the part telling me it wasnt centered. I repositioned the indicator on frther from the mid-point and was able to get it centered much easier.
for the radius ofthe collar I made incremented cuts and the used a radius gauge to cut a custom tool for the radius.
Drilling and tapping the set screw hole on the collar.
