Summary of the role
The next step in the chain of manufacturing from the Saw Operator is the CNC Mill Operator.
"CNC" stands for "Computer Numeric Control"; these machines take computerized instructions and translates it to create a shaped product with precisely controlled motors and cutters utilizing Subtractive Manufacturing.
CNC machines include Drills, Lathes and Mills
The CNC Operator takes rough cut stock material usually produced by the Saw operator and begins the process of giving it a shape that can be utilized as a product. In some cases the CNC Machine will be the final step in a product's creation but in many others this step is just the creation of a Component in a much larger system of the end product.
SAFETY
Safety considerations associated with performing CNC Mill Operator tasks/responsibilities
The best piece of safety equipment you have is your brain! Use It!
When working with a CNC Mill It is very important to be aware and respectful of all the moving parts and by-products of the system.
-Eye protection is a persistent precaution that should be addressed. Safety glasses that protect the eyes from flying debris should be worn at all times.
-Hand safety is also very important and should be addressed in a case by case basis.
When dealing with liquids and chemicals, nitrile gloves are recommended.
When dealing with static sharp edges such burs and waste chips, Leather gloves are recommended
When working with moving machinery it is recommended to not wear gloves at all, as they pose a higher risk of becoming caught in the moving tools. Keeping hands clear of all moving parts.
-Hair and loose clothing should also be addressed as these pose a risk of getting caught in moving machinery.
The Minimum Safety Personal Protective Equipment(PPE) that should be that should be worn at all times is safety glasses, with hair and clothing being addressed as well.
