Teaching PlanÂ
Teaching plan written by Wahyu Adi Widodo with the help of his buddies.
Using interactive and student-centered techniques, I introduced modals and phrasal modals to Class 10 Quirino during my two-day teaching session at the University of Northern Philippines' laboratory school. This method was intended to show how these grammatical ideas are used in real-world situations while also fostering an engaging learning environment.
I started the first day by giving the class a brief summary of myself, my background, and my responsibilities as a visiting teacher. I was able to establish connection with the pupils and set a nice tone with this succinct self-introduction. After the introductions were finished, I discussed modals. I described how they communicate ability (can, could), obligation (must, have to), permission (may, can), and counsel (should, ought to), among other things. I used brief, carefully selected movie excerpts that emphasized the use of modals in casual discourse to help make these ideas relevant. Following each video, I led a discussion in which I asked the students to name the modals and consider their significance in the context of the movie. In addition to improving their comprehension of modals, this exercise promoted critical thinking and active engagement.
To make sure the kids understood modals, I began the second day by going over the main ideas from the first lecture again. After this review, there was another interesting video session with clips that mixed the use of phrasal modals and modals. Following our conversation about the videos, I went on to describe phrasal modals, describing how they are different from basic modals and providing examples like ought to, have to, and be able to. I planned a little performance in which students acted out real-life situations using both modals and phrasal modals in order to add additional energy to the learning process. Through interactive practice, this activity helped participants close the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world application.
All things considered, the students had a rich learning experience thanks to the media, conversation, and skits. It increased their confidence in their ability to employ these structures successfully and helped them understand the value of modals and phrasal modals in communication.
