Curriculum used in Laboratory School of UNP

The University of Northern Philippines' (UNP) laboratory school implements the MATATAG Curriculum, which addresses important educational concerns in order to strengthen the basic education system. Here is a breakdown of its primary characteristics:

The MATATAG Curriculum ensures that classes concentrate on fundamental information and abilities while streamlining the competencies that students should acquire. This method enables teachers to devote more time to each subject by minimizing the number of subjects covered, which promotes greater comprehension and proficiency. Concerns over the former K–12 curriculum, which some teachers felt was excessively complicated and challenging to execute well, are addressed by this modification.

2. Improved Fundamental Skills

Building strong literacy, numeracy, and socioemotional abilities at the fundamental educational levels is one of the curriculum's main objectives. This guarantees that students have a solid academic foundation that facilitates studying in a variety of subject areas. The MATATAG Curriculum incorporates character development and life skills development into its structure in addition to academic courses. Students can specialize according to their hobbies and career goals by choosing from tracks including Academic, Technical-Vocational-Livelihood (TVL), Sports, and Arts & Design. This focused training guarantees that graduates have the abilities required for their chosen careers.

In response to critiques of the former K–12 system, the MATATAG Curriculum prioritizes quality over quantity with the goal of offering a more effective and significant educational experience.
