How does Cosmic Horror scare? That is my need to know question for this month. I would say it fits into the comprehension section of the HOTQs. I say this because the question and it's purpose is to better understand or comprehend the ideas of H.P. Lovecraft. It could easily fit into the HOTQ "What is the main idea of…?" My sub question "How does Lovecraft implement it into his works?" would probably fit best into the analysis section because it deals with me analysing the works of Lovecraft and taking previous knowledge in order to answer the question. My second sub question "How is cosmic horror different from other horrors or scary things?" probably fits into the application section as it takes my knowledge of other questions and forces me to apply it to other works and things in order to better answer the question. As for my last sub question "What is cosmic horror?" is a pretty simple question and it fits into the comprehension section, as again, it's as simple as researching a what the idea is and trying to understand it.
After looking over the HOTQs, I don't think I need to change any of my questions, the simple straightforward questions I think are best kept that way, the other ones I think already fit into an easily identifiable HOTQ, section and simply help answer the simpler questions. If I had to choose one sub question though, I'd say the How does Lovecraft implement it into his works? is the most important as I am basically studying Lovecraft and he is the origin of this concept of cosmic horror, so who better to learn from? So the sources I'll be using are obviously Lovecraft's works (Lovecraft), I'll also look into some other people's analysis, such as Phillip J. Snyder's thesis on Lovecraft's use of dread (Snyder).
