The "Sign of the Cross" in East and West

As can be seen from the diagram:  the Eastern Christian version of the "sign of the cross" also forms a five-pointed-star, and in the ancient Church that type of star signified the Star of Bethlehem, while also standing for the five wounds of Christ, and the five joys of the Virgin. In addition, the five pointed star was seen as a symbol of the incarnation, because its five points could be used to represent a man's body (i.e., the two points aimed down represent his legs, while the two points outstretched represent his arms, and the one point aimed upwards signifies his head).
