Genre means a type of literature characterized by a specific form, content, and style. Literature has four main genres: poetry, drama, fiction and non-fiction. All of these genres have particular features and functions that distinguish them from one another. In our writing workshop, students will practice writing all of the genres in the writing modes and forms listed below.
The modes describe the writer’s purpose for writing. Each mode has a number of forms of writing—specific documents that accomplish the purpose.
