For the first session, we will assess and evaluate students' strengths and weaknesses in regard to math skills. We then choose specific activities for each student to practice.
In math workshops, we cover all of the math concepts from Kindergarten to Grade 12.
Numbers and operations
Data analysis, statistics and probability
Functions
Trigonometry
Logarithms
Algebra
Permutations and combinations
Solid geometry/coordinate geometry
<Complete Math Smart> series and math games are provided in our math workshops, practicing math daily will help children build a solid foundation of basic math skills, therefore it will greatly improve children's math grades at school and help them get a head start in the new school year.

ONE HOUR MATH SESSION
1. Warm Up (5-10 minutes):
* This might begin with a question such as, “How has school been going for you since our last tutoring session?”
* Review what he/she learned in last session
* Ask if there are specific topics the student would like to address during the session
2. Explicitly teaching new math concepts (10-15 minutes):
* When introducing new concepts, I will involve students by asking students' assistance
* Use stories / analogies / role plays to get the new math concept across
3. Improve math fluency via practicing (30-40 minutes):
* students reinforce their understanding of mathematical concepts with practice on set exercises (<Complete MathSmart> series are provided)
* Tactile and/or visual learning resources such as blocks, diagrams, counters…) are provided to make exercises accessible for students still not confident with concepts
* As students become increasingly confident, remove these scaffolds and encourage them to tackle exercises using ‘pen and paper’ working and their own mental strategies
* As students practice, I assist when needed by doing things such as providing scaffolds or asking questions to check comprehension. e.g.:
‘Tell me about how you arrived at that answer’
‘Can you convince me that your answer makes sense?’
‘What was easy in this problem? What did you find difficult?’
‘Have you arrived at a different answer? Why might there be differences’…
4. Wrap up (5 minutes):
* Asking the student “How do you think this session went?” Get the student actively involved in self-assessment and tutoring session assessment
* A summary of what has been done during the session is provided
* Suggestions of what the student might do before the next tutoring session and a possible plan for the next session are given at the end
Tutoring sessions are offered both in person and online. Online classes are delivered through Zoom Video Conference which is an app you can use on any of your devices for free. In online Zoom class, both teacher and students can annotate on shared screen and whiteboard.
Teacher-made videos will be sent for reviewing after each session.
