Rob Bennie - President
Rob became interested in genealogy in 1971 when he was tasked with creating a family tree for a Sociology assignment. He was lucky in having a grandmother with an encyclopedic memory for family detail and an aunt who was a genealogy fanatic in the days when everything uncovered came from writing long letters to strangers and hoping for replies by post. He has traced one branch of his family back to the 13th C in Shropshire, England. His interest lies in military records and Scottish and English family history.
Sandi Cunliffe - Vice President and Education Director
Sandi started her interest in genealogy research in the early 90s, when she inherited a large amount of information and documents from her father. Her areas of interest are focused on England and Ireland, and more recently her DNA. After moving to Vancouver in 1995, she joined the BC Genealogy Society and has been benefitting from their resources ever since. As Director of Programs for SCGC, Sandi brings her expertise in Adult Education and Event Planning to bring us interesting programs and speakers suitable for our Zoom meeting format. She also enjoys helping those new to genealogy to get started on their research.
Lori Thibault Winn - Secretary
Lori became interested in her family genealogy in 1978 while looking at old pictures with her mom. It became apparent that she only knew part of her families' history. Her father's Metis line was a blank canvas which she has spent years researching and learning about. All these years later, she has documented proof of her families' lines. Her areas of interest are France, England, Scotland, Wales and Canada.
Linda Moorcroft - Treasurer
Paula O'Brien - Membership Director
John Hodges - Director at Large
John was born in England and started working on his family tree in 1982 as a result of looking through some old family photos of people he did not know. On retirement, he moved to Canada in 2008 and was able to continue his genealogy thanks to the growing resources online. His Ancestry family tree now has almost 40,000 individuals. He is most familiar with British records and enjoys helping others overcome their genealogy problems.
