This rocking perch is an adaptive seating device designed to provide gentle, controlled movement while a user remains seated. Its curved base allows the user to rock forward and backward, providing an outlet for movement while supporting active sitting, balance, and postural control. Rocking seating can be particularly useful in classrooms, therapy spaces, or sensory environments for individuals who benefit from movement to help with comfort, attention, and self-regulation.
The rocking perch was constructed primarily from tri-wall cardboard, with multiple pieces layered and reinforced to create a strong structure capable of supporting a user. The curved side pieces were measured, cut, and shaped before being connected with internal cardboard supports. Hot glue and white glue were used to join and reinforce the components. Exposed edges were covered and finished using edging techniques and tape, particularly around curved surfaces and rounded corners.
