This reading easel is a custom assistive device designed to hold books, documents, or tablets at an upright angle, allowing users to read without continuously holding their materials. It can be particularly useful for individuals with limited hand strength, impaired fine motor control, or restricted upper-extremity mobility. By providing a stable, hands-free reading surface, the easel can reduce physical strain, encourage improved posture, and support greater independence during everyday activities. Its lightweight, customizable design makes it suitable for classrooms, rehabilitation settings, and home use.
The reading easel was constructed primarily from tri-wall cardboard. Individual cardboard pieces were measured and cut to form the angled reading surface, supporting structure, and base. White glue was used to join the components, while clamps held the pieces securely in place as the adhesive dried. Nails provided additional support and helped maintain the alignment of the assembled pieces. Finally, edging techniques were applied to both the exterior surfaces and interior corners to cover exposed corrugation, reinforce the structure, and create a cleaner, more professional finish.
