The doublabass is a large instrument that plays in a very low register of the orchestral pitch range. It is essential to have a room that is large enough to put 2 metres between each student and instrument.
Ideally, a classroom would have little to no furniture, however a desk would be an asset. The room should have:
Piano or keyboard with speakers loud enough for students to hear while they play their instrument
A music stand with a bow tray. (this will allow the doublebass students the opportunity to place their bow on a safe surface)
Doublebass storage. If students are bringing their personal basses to class there is only a need for the class to have case storage for the lesson. However, if students are accessing instruments at the music department, there will need to be a doublebass storage area. Ideally this space will have upright storage braces to keep basses off the floor when not being used.
