Try to find out about the curriculum for your subject- what will you be teaching as a teacher?

You can use the DFE National curriculum link to the left. Every school will have the topics that they teach on their website. Another good way is to look at the topics on the Oak National Academy website.

You are not expected to know everything but will be expected to have an awareness of what is being delivered in schools:

• How has your degree prepared you to teach? Which topics would be the most useful?

• What areas of the curriculum are you strongest in? What might you need to develop?

• If you were asked to teach a lesson and your subject knowledge was weak what would you do?

• What are you most looking forward to teaching and why?

• For primary trainees: Do you have an area of expertise? What would it be? Why?

• How comfortable do you feel teaching XXX?

• In your subject/phase what are the most important concepts or ideas that pupils might need to know to be successful?

• Can you think about any topics/concepts that Pupils might struggle to grasp in your area- how might you teach these? 

Keeping children safe is the most important thing that we can do as teachers. Research these ideas - the NSPCC website link is a great place to start. All schools have staff called Designated Safeguarding Officers that you would let know about the disclosure. If you are ever in doubt always report something to this staff member, never discuss it with anybody else unless you are concerned that no action is taken and you are following the whistleblowing policy, which you should always do if concerned.

Think about ready for your interviews questions like:

• How do schools keep pupils safe?

• If a pupil made a disclosure and you thought they were not safe what would you do?

• What is your understanding about safe guarding and keeping children safe in schools at the moment?
