Show some reverence before, during, and after communion. While in line, do not chat with other people.
When you bow or kneel before you receive the Eucharist, do it when you are in front of the Eucharist, not when you are still behind a person in line.
When the Eucharistic Minister presents the Host and says “The Body of Christ” or “The Blood of Christ”, the proper response is “Amen!” This shows that you know and believe that you are about to receive Jesus Himself.
When you receive the Chalice with the Precious Blood of Christ from the Eucharistic Minister, firmly hold the Chalice without grabbing it.
If the Holy Host drops on the floor, take it and eat it or hand it back to the Eucharistic Minister. Make sure no particle of the Holy Host remains on the floor.
Intinction (“dipping” the Host in the Precious Blood) is generally not allowed.
If you cannot receive the Holy Eucharist, you may ask for a blessing. Line up with the others. When it's your turn, put your right hand on your left shoulder (or on left side of your chest). The Priest or Extraordinary Minister gives you a blessing.
Go back to your seat. Kneel and pray to Jesus. Do not be in a hurry. He may also have a message for you.
Consume the Holy Communion immediately. If you do not, a Eucharistic Minister may ask you to. This is to protect the Sacrament.
It is advised to remain kneeling until the priest puts the ciborium (with the Holy Eucharist) inside the tabernacle and closes the tabernacle.
All non-Catholics cannot receive Holy Communion. This includes protestants or non-denominational Christians, people of other faiths, non-believers, and atheists.
If you are a Catechumen (undergoing the Catholic Rites of Christian Initiation), you also cannot yet receive the Holy Eucharist.
If you are a Catholic who has a mortal sin, you need to first receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
