Confessional

You may receive the Sacrament at the confessional or face-to-face (that is, without the confessional).

Before you go to a priest to receive this sacrament, perform an examination of conscience. This is when you recall your sins.

Go to the priest and begin with the Sign of the Cross.

The priest welcomes you.

Say "Bless me, Father, for I have sinned. It has been _____ weeks/months/years since my last confession."

Confess your sins openly.

Tell the priest all your sins and the number of times you committed each of them.

Listen to the priest for his counsel/advice.

Feel free to ask any questions to the priest.

The priest tells you want you need to do as your penance.

Pray the Act of Contrition when the priest tells you.

The priest absolves you of your sins.

Exit out of the confessional area.

Do the penance that the priest told you to do.

My God,

I am sorry for my sins with all my heart.

In choosing to do wrong and failing to do good,

I have sinned against you whom I should love above all things.

I firmly intend, with your help, to do penance, to sin no more, and to avoid whatever leads me to sin.

Our Saviour Jesus Christ suffered and died for us.

In His name, my God, have mercy.
