Acts (Acts of the Apostles)
This is the second volume of Luke’s two-volume work, continues Luke’s presentation of biblical history, describing how the salvation promised to Israel in the Old Testament and accomplished by Jesus has now under the guidance of the holy Spirit been extended to the Gentiles.
Peter or Simon Peter
Also known as Peter the Apostle, Peter the Rock, Simon Peter, Simeon, Simon, or Cephas
He was later given by Jesus the name Cephas, from the Aramaic כֵּיפָא, Kepha, 'rock/stone'.
He was one of the 12 apostles of Jesus.
12 Apostles - the first 12 people that Jesus called to follow Him.
Considered as the first Pope of the Catholic Church.
Son of Jesse, from the tribe of Judah.
2nd King of the Israelites
Father of Solomon (3rd king of the Israelites)
He defeated Goliath, a Philistine, who challenged the Israelites in one of their battles.
Right hand of God
From the Compendium of CCC - 132: What does the Ascension mean? -- After forty days during which Jesus showed himself to the apostles with ordinary human features which veiled his glory as the Risen One, Christ ascended into heaven and was seated at the right hand of the Father. He is the Lord who now in his humanity reigns in the everlasting glory of the Son of God and constantly intercedes for us before the Father. He sends us his Spirit and he gives us the hope of one day reaching the place he has prepared for us.
Spotless unblemished lamb
This pertains to Jesus, who was the perfect sacrifice for the atonement of all sins in the past, present, and future.
This describes Jesus as without sin.
Christians have received the redemption prophesied by Isaiah (Isaiah 52:3), through the blood (Jewish symbol of life) of the spotless lamb (Isaiah 53:7, 10; John 1:29; Romans 3:24–25; cf. 1 Corinthians 6:20).
Gospel
Seven miles
literally, “sixty stades.” A stade was 607 feet. Some manuscripts read “160 stades” or more than eighteen miles.
The distance given by Luke varies in different manuscripts and the figure given has been made even more ambiguous by interpretations. (Wikipedia)
The exact location of Emmaus is disputed.
It is known only that it was connected by a road to Jerusalem.
The Messiah should suffer
See the prophecy in Isaiah 53
Breaking of the Bread
