This is an Introduction to my SVCTE Mechatronics Engineering Class & Resource Page, and specifically to some workshops and PD units that will help you learn about my class.ย As a "Student", have fun learning and trying out a new skill.ย As a "Teacher", be able to replicate this in your class room.

No explicit prerequisite course work or coding knowledge is required, but students are expected to have a good understanding of basic computer applications, tools & principles. Students will need to be self-sufficient with finding answers one the internet. You be you. Come as you are, Start where you are atโฆ
Primer: ย "Aaron, I can imagine no way in which this thing could be considered anywhere remotely close to safe. All I know is I spent six hours in there and I'm still alive... You still want to do it?"
As with any activity, please make sure you are using appropriate safety equipment. ย If you are coding, writing, reading, or working a lab, make sure you stand up and stretch every hour or so,ย Please consider any safety issues connecting to a Raspberry Pi, Arduino, computers and other electronic equipment.

Have Fun Building Rube Goldberg Kinetic Machines!!!!!
This a four lesson module where you will learn how to run and teach a set of lessons incorporating a Micro-Controller (typically an Arduino), Sensors, and Motors to build a Kinetic Machine. Students will learn Design Thinking, Engineering, Electronics and Coding.
Students will learn about who Rube Goldberg was and what Kinetic Machines are. Students will learn about Sensors and Motors and how to integrate inputs and outputs with a Micro Controller.ย They will also build an overly complicated Kinetic Machine that will connect to each of the other student teams.ย

We tend to evaluate each other quickly.ย It may be part of our "lizard" brain, where as we encounter something or someone new, we need to evaluate them as a friend or foe rather fast.ย
These first impressions are influenced by a number of factors... We judge and are judged by our facial features, body type, how attractive or intelligent we are perceived to be... even our voice, and how we sound is in that first impression calculation.ย
We tend to have a hard time overcoming our initial perceptions and impressions.ย Even when we are presented with new data and new information, it's hard to change that sticky first impression.
We get one chance, so let's figure out how to do it right. This workshop/Lesson focuses on:

Quiz - verify that they are all listed as a "Formative", "Mastery Path", or "Summative"ย
๐ Formative Quiz - These are quizzes that the students can take a few times. I have them either set for unlimited times, or 3-5 times, where the final score is their average. The idea is that these Formative Quizzes are designed for students to learn and master a skill.ย while I want them to ger 100%, and when it's set to unlimited tries, the student should get 100% eventually.ย When the quiz is set to 3-5 tries with an average, then they should be prepared and should take the quiz seriously. I set the quiz to not show the right answer, but I do let them see their wrong answer.ย I also put the explanation of the right and wrong answer in the right and wrong answer prompt for each question.ย That way they can see why they got the answer wrong and learn from that experience.ย ย

๐ Quiz -๐ Mastery Path - These Mastery path quizzes are to be presented after the student has had a chance to do some labs and some Formative quizzes. ย The goal is to let students have 2 chances to take this quiz, and take the average of the 2 attempts.ย Based on the average, they will be presented with a Canvas Mastery Path, where they will have an option for take additional quiz and assignments to help with remediation.ย This will get them ready to take the Summative Quizzes.
