This award recognizes a teacher who promotes high standards of content and rigor in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Education. The SVEC Keeper of the Flame award recognizes and honors those heroes of K-12 education who have distinguished themselves as Keepers of the Flame of knowledge by maintaining high standards of content in STEM instruction in the face of significant challenges.
August 14, 2023 - Award-winning teacher Jim Burnham considers himself to be a “mad scientist” in the classroom. “Fire-breathing robots” is a term Jim uses to describe what he teaches with Mechatronics. But robotics, 3D printing and leadership are all going to be a part of the mix, as he prepares his students for the jobs of the future.
June 2023 - Taipei, Taiwan: Taught International STEAM workshops for Elementary, Middle and High School students in Taipei.
2022-2023 - The accomplishments of Jim Burnham are quite literally on fire as he continues to light the spark of learning and inspiration for students in his mechatronics engineering program at Silicon Valley Career Technical Education Center (SVCTE).
2018-2019 - San Jose, CA: Metropolitan Education District is proud to recognize its 2018-19 Teacher of the Year, Jim Burnham, a Mechatronics Engineering instructor at Silicon Valley Career Technical Education (SVCTE).

June 2022 - Have Fun Building Rube Goldberg Kinetic Machines!!!!!
This a four lesson module where you will learn how to run and teach a set of lessons incorporating a Micro-Controller (typically an Arduino), Sensors, and Motors to build a Kinetic Machine. Students will learn Design Thinking, Engineering, Electronics and Coding.

March 1 2021 — State Farm has awarded Silicon Valley Career Technical Education Mechatronics Engineering instructor Jim Burnham with a $2,500 grant.
Dec 14 2020 — Students from Silicon Valley Career Technical Education received a new 2020 Revolution Robotics Challenge Kit with the support of DuPont Silicon Valley Technology Center. SVCTE Mechatronics Engineering students will be able to explore the thrill of designing, building and programming their own robot during the 2020-21 school year.
