Engineering ties together the disciplines of science and math. The Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology defines engineering as the profession in which knowledge of the mathematical and natural sciences gained by study, experience and practice is applied with judgment to develop ways to economically utilize the materials and forces of nature to benefit mankind.
Engineers use technology in a variety of forms—it really crosses all of the STEAM fields. Your role as a Mentor is to help your mentee to gain a better understanding of all the opportunities in the world of engineering and how experience in the arts can enhance these opportunities. This could be from an intersection with their interests in science or in math. On a walk with your mentee? Ever wonder how that parking lot got built? Ask a Civil Engineer.
