It is questionable if and to what extent biodiversity and ecosystem decline is taken into account in strategic decision making. Most strategic decisions in organizations are still based on economic values (Elkington, 1999). The concept of sustainability reflects a multidisciplinary framework grounded in people, planet and profit values needed in contemporary organizations to maintain a license to exist in a complex and continuous changing organizational context. This concept seems to find its way more and more in theory and practice of organizational decision making. Therefore, this research focuses on the extent to which sustainability, or more specific values that relate to the people, planet and profit dimension of the sustainability concept, underlies strategic decision making processes in organizations.
